Hockey is the game canadians can't seem to get enough of. It's like an addiction similar to playing the spin palace casino games. But most importantly it is down to the loyalty as a fellow canadian to follow the country's number 1 sport!

I hope the sens are able to resign Redden,Chara and Schaefer.I also hope they add either Eric Belanger or Marc Chouinard for us Quebec(Hull)
sens fan.
Montreal should try to get better at defense and replace Koivu.
Brewer,Morris,Gauthier,Jovanovski,Mckee,Hill and Kubina,Boucher(any 2 would help them a lot).
Arnott would help for size but if you want to please the fans go for Brière and Dumont.

Leclair signed a two year deal, the first year being somewhere around 2.1 mil, the second falls in at around 1.4, so he wont be anything next season.

I asssume the * next to recchi is because he has both a club option at 2.5 and a player option at 1.5 next season.

As far as whose out there. I've always been a fan of Axlesson Donavan, and Friesen just because of the effort that they put out there 99% of the games they play. anouther guy who i would include in the list of hardworking players I wish were on my team would be thomas holmstrom, whens his contract up anyways?

The UFA defensmen crop is impressive, Jovo, Chara Lidstrom McCabe K. Johnsson Redden along with the next teir down guys like Morris, Mara, Tarnstrom, Kaberle, Gauthier, Kubina, D. Markov and McKee.

From a pens fan perspective I hope to see Gonchar and his large salary shipped out by the deadline, I hope to see Melichar gone as well. I also see Tarnstrom being traded as he is a UFA next season and his low salary vs his offensive ablity will garner some interest.

Gone should be Fata, Vandenbouche, Bogunicki (even if I do like his speed and grit), Odelein, and Pirjeta. I can't see Mario coming back for anouther year, and Recchi will only be brought back if it is at his player option which is 1.5 mil for next year.

I wouldnt have a problem with resigning Jackman (21 points in 25 games) and bringing up Welsh from the minors. Target guys like Mckee, Gauthier or maybe D. Markov (he seems to be a bit out of place in the post lockout CBA) to put some grit and defensive pressence along with two way guys like Jackman Whitney and Welsh.

At forward Malkin Crosby, Malkin, Palffy, Christensen, Leclair, Recchi and Roy are locks to be back next season, Talbot Surovy and Ouelett have shown they belong in the NHL as well. A good veteran third line center would be ideal, whatever happened to guys like Guy Carbonneau? A real shut down defensive center, a guy who you feel comfortable putting on the ice game 7 of the cup, 45 seconds left, faceoff in your zone, up by one goal. Guys like Ricci and Peca, who could play that role in the past are a shadow of their former glory this season. There are guys who would be affordable on the list, Jason Arrnot and Alyn McCauley, for example, but where would they play? They'er too good to be a third line center in my opinion, but they wont be bumping Malking and Crosby down either. So I guess at forward there really isn't anyone on the list who fit the teams real needs.

And at goalie we are stuck with T-bo and Fluery is the real thing so no need to bring that up.

The teams payroll for this year will be around 33 mil after fluery and crosby's bonus's hit. Fluerys next contract will be similar to Raycrofts so I should be easier to plan around. And even without Gonchar traded, between the loss of Mario, losing the above mentioned players at seasons end, guys like Recchi, Leclair and Fleury getting less money there will be something like 8 mil or so to try and right the ship for next season, even after Gonchar and Palffys raises, and still have a payroll similar to this seasons.

Hopefully Patrick, or whoever replaces him, will do a better job of creating a more balanced team this time.

I don't think the Montreal Canadiens will sign anyone in that list but Saku Koivu. I don't see the Habs not trying to sign him, especially after this season. They locked Kovalev for 4 years, and I think it'll be a huge factor in Koivu's contract negociation. Jan Bulis and Niklas Sundstrom are gone, and so is Pierre Dagenais. Francis Bouillon is the only other player I would sign from that list...and of course, Steve Begin, but I'm not sure if he has the option, or the team...

The Habs need big scoring foward, and physical defenseman. But I'd like them to add another hard-working two way foward, we need someone to replace Radek Bonk on our third line.

He's not really what the Habs need right now, but I'd like them to go after Maxim Afinogenov. He always had a lot of succes against Montreal, and truely impressed me this season when the Sabres were playing the Canadiens. Imagine what a guy like him could do with an older Perezhogin and a big talented center like Viktor Kozlov or David Legwand.

Steve Reinprecht could be the "hard-working two way foward" I'm looking for. He's playing in the Western Conference, so I don't see him play a lot, but from what I've seen of him, I guess it's safe to say that he could be a fan favorite here in Montreal. Or maybe it could be Jeff Halpern. I still can't believe we decided to take Bulis instead of Halpern when we traded Dainius Zubrus.

If there's one defenseman in that list that I would LOVE to see in Montreal, it's the hard-hitting Denis Gauthier. Of course, there are a lot of more talented defensemen in the list, but Gauthier would be such a great fit in a Habs uniform. And let's face it, chances are the Leafs are gonna sign McCabe back sometime during the season/offseason.

And please...bring back Mathieu Garon so that we can trade Jose Theodore against a great offensive player or a solid defenseman !!!

With this UFA defense crop and the Leafs having $34 million in cap space possibley, they should finally work on their defense. Getting Kaberle and McCabe back will be key, and I'd like to have Colaiacovo and Kronwall at 5 and 6, so we just need a 1 and 2, unless people think McCabe and Kaberle are ready for it, then a 3 and 4. With Leetch, Blake, Chara, Redden, Jovanovski, Kuba, Brewer, Morris, Mara, and many more on the market, if they don't imrpove their defense, they'll have to answer to a hole lot of angry fans.

I wasn't aware the Poti was a Group III free agent at the end of the year. If that's the case, then he, Purinton and Niemenen can all walk for all I care. Having Straka back would be nice, but it wouldn't break my heart if he had to leave. Rucchin is getting older and more injury-prone, but it's always good to have a guy like that on your club. Ward and Strudwick, I hope, will stick around. Rucinsky as well.

To add to the truth (which is what I said that this list is wrong and full of incorrect information), if it can be I think this should be taken off, because a lot of people will see this and think that what this list says is correct in terms of FA, but it isn't.

Montreal needs to keep

Saku Koivu
Steve Begin
Yan Danis

Say good-bye to all the other group 3 free agents.

I would love for them to make a run at signing.

Jason Arnott (possible)
Niklas Lidstrom (not likely)
David Legwand (not likely)
Danny Markov (possible)
Marek Zidlicky (not likely)
Jamie Langenbrunner (possible)
Zedeno Chara (possible)
Wade Redden (possible)
Denis Gauthier (possible)
Mike LeClerc (possible)
Eric Brewer (possible)
Nolan Schaffer (not likely)
Cory Sarich (possible)
Clarke Wilm (possible)
Bredan Witt (possible)

Now I DON'T expect Montreal to sign all those players. Those are the players I would LIKE them to try for. I know some are pretty much locks to remain with their current team.

However players such as Chara and Redden if Ottawa can't sign both if Montreal puts up the money they have a shot at one. However they could skip the chaos caused by those two and try to pry away Zidlicky from Nashville (altough he will most likely resign with the Preds.). Him and Andrei Markov would be amazing on the powerplay.

They need the size and aggression of players like Arnott and LeClerc, also Langenbrunner would be a good fit to give the team some more grit.

Players like Gauthier, Sarich, Markov, and Witt could provide size, physical play, and stable defense to Montreal's weak defense core.

Wilm playing on a line with Steve Begin would give the Habs a huge shot of energy everytime they are on the ice.

Whoever they try to sign they need players with size and skill upfront, would also be nice if they could get a couple more right handed shooters as well. They also need to improve on thier defense, there are lots of players avalible. I just hope Gainey makes some good signings to improve the team.

Being a Leaf fan, I would hope they bring back McCabe, Kaberle on defense and try signing Kubina, Morris or Gauthier. Then have Kronwall, Colaiacovo and Wozzy or Harrison.

They would have a solid top 6 with
McCabe -- Kaberle
Colaiacovo -- Kubina/Morris/Gauthier
Kronwall -- Wozzy/Harrison

Then keep Tellqvist and sign Turco for a 3 or 4 year contract to hold us off until Pogge and/or Rask are ready.

On Forward, I would Keep Lindros, Allison, Stajan, Wellwood, Pohl. Have a rookie or 2 come up next year and go with a line up like this...

Linros/Sundin/Steen
O'Neill/Wellwood/Tucker
Ponikarovski/Stajan/Antropov
Ondrus/Pohl/Domi

Obviously it is still REAL early and the chances of any of this is un-likely to happen, it was still
somthing for me to do so I could kill 10 minutes.

It doesn't matter. The Leafs are notorious for overpaying old geezers. What's to say that next year is goin' to be any different than any other year? Leaf fans can dream, but you have to remember that JFJ and Quinn still run the team.

i think if toronto signs all of their rfa"s and mcabe they will look good come training camp

with aubin and tellqvist the team has a couple of competent backups(perfect for a 2 golie system)

with the good young crop of defenseman (coliacovo>white>kronwall>harrison>bell>woznski)
we only need two good vets(kaberle mcabe)

that would bring the team to about 15 million

at forward

sundin(6.3M)>ponikarovksy(0.7M)>antropov(1.4M)
stajan(1.5M)>steen(0.9M)>o"niel(1.5M)
wellwood(1.5M)>tucker(1.5M)>kilger(1.5M)

bringing the salary to about 35 million AFTER buying out belfour(old/bad back/wat past his prime) and belak(should have been a career minor leaguer)and domi(too old)

if the cap goes to 43 or 45 million next year this would leave toronto with about 7 to 9 million for the free agent market. this could be spent on 2 top tier wingers or 3 depth players. all in all, i think if they keep their core group of young players along with their vetran leadership , and add 2 or 3 guys to fill gaps and this team will have no problem making the playoffs. i think the key will be to find guys who can develop with the core of the team not just fill a spot for a year.
