 | Forsberg Speculation |
BryanWay writes "Rather than continue creating team-based articles based around speculation that Forsberg might return to one NHL team, I thought it might be better to have an open forum wherein everyone can express their opinions.
Is signing Forsberg a mistake? Do you think the surgery really held? Will he get injured again? What are his salary demands? How long is he planning on staying in the NHL? Which team is he most likely to sign with? Why? What should a team be willing to give up to get him? Is he better in a supporting role, or as the go-to guy?
I want to invite all ideas in here, even wild speculation and personal opinions. Honestly, though, the best kind of answers include reliably sourced articles. The longer and more detailed the post, the better. "

Signing Forsberg is not a mistake. Worst comes to worst you trade him for a boatload of prospects and picks at next years deadline.
Yes his surgery held. Yes he will get injured again. His salaray demands are ranging from 2mil to 4 mil a year but will be entertaining anything. He wants to play in the NHL for another 4 or 5 years, but would like to sign a 2 year deal for now.
I see him signing with Ottawa and the team losing in the 2nd round to the Flyers. Just because they'll be fired up because they didn't think they had a chance. Then the flyers go on to lose to the devils in the next round and the devils win the cup.
Did i go to far?

Re: Forsberg Speculation (Score: 1) by habsrock99 on Tuesday, February 05 (User Info | Send a Message) | | I'd love to see Forsberg come to Montreal because I think he'd be great playing alongside S. Kostitsyn and Latendresse on the 3rd line. Will he be willing to be a 3rd line Center who gets a lot of PP time? Doubt it. For about a week now, I've had this thought of "How much could Latendresse and Sergei produce if they had an actual offensive Center between them?". Forsberg seems to be a perfect fit, a mentor and a tremendous playmaker. Would I spend the 5 million Forsberg apparently seeks? Probably not. I'd look to sign him for around 3-3.5, anything higher is just too much money. Forsberg's a shell of his former self. People may say "Well he had 55 points in 57 games last year", well, if it was the Forsberg we all know, he would have had 70+ points in those same 57 games. |

But thats if detroit would take a chance on him. |

Of course you would want to see him skate and give him a physical. He is only 34! If he can stay healthy he can be an awesome pick up.

Re: Forsberg Speculation (Score: 1) by otherPerry on Tuesday, February 05 (User Info | Send a Message) | lol why is it that everyone has forgotten about Colorado and the 5+ million they have laying around (not to mention long-term injury relief for Sakic & Smyth), that Foppa still loves that place (he still owns a house there), the fans adore him, and lastly, he still has good ties with Lacroix (which still has a large hand in the org.). They are going to make the best and strongest pitch, did everyone forget how quiet that organization is when it comes to wheeling and dealing? Bourqe, Blake, Smyth, etc. These were unexpected moves that and the Avs quietly did their work getting them.
My money says he comes to the Avs, retires an Av after 2 more years, and they win a Cup next year if he is healthy. The biggest question, IMO, is not where he will sign, its whether he is truely healthy or not. He may feel he is good to go, but you never know with the instability of that foot/ankle he has.
He is worth every penny you spend on him, if he is healthy. I think the best bet is you play him diligently (defensive matchups, total time played, etc.), and you use him as 2nd line center. He will be both a go-to and support guy, depending on the scenario, its always been that way I.E. the Assists column vs. the Goal Scoring column. |

Sens will probably try to sign him as well.
He apperently wants to go back to Philly. Says there is "Unfinished Business" but it isn't that simple. Philly would need to shed the cap space because Forsburg wants a 2 year deal minimum.
If philly signs him....I'd feel bad for Briere....he'd be knocked down to #2 or #3 center seeing that Richards is having such a good season. What a waste....Glad he didn't sign with mtl! |

The guy is an amazing talent and can help any team WIN. Wherever Forsberg signs, that team will get a hell of a lot better depending on Forsberg is healthy. Don't just add Philly as the only team, I've heard rumblings even Minnesota will offer Peter a contract. |

Re: Forsberg Speculation (Score: 1) by TheHabsEnthousiast on Tuesday, February 05 (User Info | Send a Message) | I heard from the radio that Forsberg, this summer, is set to marry a girl from Montreal, and her family would be trying to convince him into signing with Montreal..
And, thinking about it, 'would be a great fit..
Playing time : Plekanec is slowly taking the #1 center job Forsberg would be getting the #2 spot with good minutes.. And both Koivu and Smolinsky seem tired and would great in 3rd and 4th center duties..
Powerplay : Forsberg would go to a team with a great powerplay system
Hockey life : Next year's the 100th anniversary (He would be part of a great party..)
And if Frosberg wants to win a Stanley Cup again, what better place to do it than Montreal.. we know how to.. |
