Hockey is the game canadians can't seem to get enough of. It's like an addiction similar to playing the spin palace casino games. But most importantly it is down to the loyalty as a fellow canadian to follow the country's number 1 sport!

 The Dustin Penner Play

Ducks blankGryphon writes "The friendship between Edmonton Oiler’s GM Kevin Lowe and Anaheim Ducks GM Brian Burke was ruined last year when GM Brian Burke was forced to decline to match an offer sheet made by GM Kevin Lowe for Dustin Penner because it would have put them over the Maximum Team Salary Cap. Dustin Penner signed a 5-year offer sheet from the Edmonton Oiler’s after the Anahem Ducks declined.

The reason I am talking about this is because couldn’t the same type of situation arise? The Anaheim Ducks were already forced to trade Andy McDonald to the St. Louis Blues earlier this year for Doug Weight, Michal Birner, and a 2008 7th-round pick to fit Scott Niedermayer and Teemu Selanne into the Salary Cap, but what are they going to do when July 1st goes by. They were forced to give up Dustin Penner (29,16,45 2006-2007) last year and are rite up on the Maximum Team Salary Cap of 50.3 Million this year with 49,643,300 Million already invested. Now it’s a given several players on the team may be not want to resign with the Anaheim Ducks or they may not be wanted now that Brain Burke is aware that this is a problem. Other players like Scott Niedermayer and Teemu Selanne may retire, and other may even be traded, but if not then they may have not be able to sign their RFAs this year.

Not In Any Order:

1.Corey Perry
2.Brian Sutherby
3.Ryan Carter
4.Brandon Bochenski
5.Jonas HillerCorey Perry G22 A28 P50Jonas Hiller 5W-4L-1OL .912SV% 2.28GAA

More so Corey Perry, but you can see by their stats that Corey Perry and Jonas Hiller are Above Average and if noticed by other team's GMs'; may be Signed to Offer Sheets if the other team’s GMs’ realize that the Anahiem Ducks are near the Maximum Team Salary Cap of 50.3 Million.

My new neighbors are a female couple (which is very common now days with the new laws) and look quite sporty. I'm gonna find out if they like hockey.

Oh yeah, Penner is a wind bag.  Kevin Lowe screwed up that team.  Clearly another conspiracy.

If I'm Brian Burke, I try to re-sign 3 of those 5 RFA's, Perry(of course), Hiller(he's why Bryzgalov's with the Coyotes) and Ryan Carter. I don't know too much about Carter but I constantly hear his name on the highlight reels. He's got 8 Pts in 33 games and is a -2 and is only 24. He's not going to command a lot of money and could become one of those cheap 2nd or 3rd line forwards that are good for 15-20 goals.

Looking back with 20/20 hindsight, I believe Lowe would have been much better off trading the draft picks he gave up for Penner to Tampa Bay for Richards or Lacavalier -(if Vinny were available).  Surly Tampa would have loved to get draft picks (#1,#2,) and one of their high $$$ contracts off their books in trade.  I'm not sure if Tampa wanted to rid themselves of one of their higher priced contracts, like they do now, at the time when Penner was signed by Edmonton?  But if Lowe had waited just a little longer before signing the exduck, one of Tampa's star players would have become available.  But again, hindsight is always with 20/20 vision.

I believe that is why they wanted to make the deal with the Maple Leafs, Mats Sundin would go to Anaheim, and many contracts that the Ducks cannot afford after the season would go to Toronto. So they get something for them and just not losing them to the agency market.

But anyways I like what Burke did, he go a good pick, still has tons of prospects and Dustin penner has not been that great thi year. So I thinK Brian Burke just makes Kevin Lowe look more like an idiot for picking up an average player, for around 5 million a year, and don't forget, Edmonton lost probably a top five pick, so why does Brian Burke win?

1) Does not have to deal with an expenisve Penner contract as well

2)Hey, they still have Ryan Getzlaf, Bobby Ryan, Corey Perry, Logan MacMillan, Mark Mitera and other top prospects in their system.

3)They are probably the best team in the NHL again

4)They have a probable top 5 pick, could use if necessary in good trade(I was hoping Leafs, not anymore sadly)

5)They are the Stanley Cup Champions

6) Can Laugh in Kevin Lowe's face

7)Probably more

So yeah, Kevin might won that battle, but hey, Burke won the war! And Kudos for Burke taking it like the great person that he is! I hope the Leafs could sign a proffessional like that.

They won't let anyone offer sheet Perry. Burke will do whatever it takes to move someone else to make room for Perry.

First of all, Dustin Penner is NOT having a bad year this year. Since coming to Edmonton, he has turned into a more all round player. He will probably finish the year with more points then he had last year, so all you people that belive in a "sophmore jinx" better take note of Penner. His plus/minus is about the same on Edmonton as it was on Anaheim, (Anaheim won the cup last year and Edmonton will not make the playoffs). After that strong win tonight, I can tell this team is fighting together to make sure that *****ing piece of shit Brian Burke doesn't get his pathetic top 5 pick this year. And he won't because Edmonton will not finish in the bottom five. Oh and Leaf fans, don't count on Burke going to Toronto. He hate it there, said it himself. The only smart thing to come out of his mouth all year.

If Burke feels like he got F'd by Kevin Lowe last summer wait till this year. He's gonna feel like he's being F'd by Dustin Penner!

Why is everyone so pissed at this guy? (Lowe) He just got a head start last year on what is gonna be absolutley cut-throat off season this year. Don't hate the player hate the game.  Just about every team has a few players that are gonna be stolen and the Oilers are no exception. The Oilers can most likely kiss Joni Pitkanen goodbye.

Brian Burke has a team that won last year and will probably be in the final again this year within the league salary structure so as far as i'm concerned he's just complaining for nothing.  Burke's probably gonna get a top 5 in a draft for the ages for his troubles.

( I personally think that he's not that pissed at K. Lowe and it was sorted out months ago)

It would suck though watching future greats signing for dollars that you just don't have available under your cap but let's keep in mind that he has #44 or #27 on the ice at all times. When Brian Burke was with Vancouver he was a poster boy for moderate spending and an outspoken advocate for a level playing field so small market franchises could compete. I see no fairness in signing Neidermyer and Selanne half way through the year as well as his capologist-like creations to shave a few bucks off his cap hit.

I mean , this guy can find anything to ***** about and he's just as devious and sneaky as any other. He didn't draft any of these guys either. He just traded for Pronger and won the cup . Wow, what insight. He was handed the Stanley Cup on a platter as far as i'm concerned.

I do actually respect Brian Burke for his contribution to the NHL over the years. He's a straight shooter that hates to lose but if he's really serious about all these things he's whining about then I hope someone lets the air out of his tires because he made out fine in the Penner deal. What's so bad about Perry beind signed away by a team that needs him. Isn't this what  the GM'S wanted?
