Hockey is the game canadians can't seem to get enough of. It's like an addiction similar to playing the spin palace casino games. But most importantly it is down to the loyalty as a fellow canadian to follow the country's number 1 sport!

 Vegas Odds for the Cup

Speculation blankBruMagnus writes "Las Vegas has released their Odds for the 16 playoff teams that will fight for the Cup.
The Ducks take 1st, followed closely by the Wings.
The interesting part: The Caps and Flyers are the 15th and 16th teams, respectively.
http://watch.tsn.ca/nhl/clip44005#clip43900

Look inside for all 16 teams.

1st Anaheim 5-1
2nd Detroit 11-2 (5.5-1)
3rd SJ 7-1
4th Pens and Habs 10-1
6th Sens 11-1 (somehow still high)
7th NJ and NYR and Minnie 18-1
10th Dallas 20-1
11th Calgary and Avs 30-1
13th Boston 35-1
14th Preds and Caps 40-1
16th Flyers 50-1

According to this, it looks like the Pens shouldn't have thrown their game vs. the Flyers in the season Finale as they are Vegas' odds as the unlikeliest team to win the Cup. While the Sens are a surprising 11-1 just a smidgen behind both the Habs and Pens.
The Habs face the 13th placed Bruins, while the Rangers and Devils seem evenly matched in the 4th vs. 5th battle (based on standings).
The interesting matchup: the two worst teams in the Caps and Flyers.

Do you agree with these odds?
Personally, I think aside from the Senators high listing (which I'm sure Kramer will comment on), they are pretty decent. Though I may have given the Avs 25-1. No surprise the Top 3 teams are all from the Western Conference, and that the Pens and Habs top the East."

The reason they put the sens 6th is because they believe the injuries are not as bad as were led to believe. There sources tells them that the sens captain is living off of spinach flax seed and most important PROBIOTIC YOGURT.He's been getting the shits but will not stop him from playing the first game.As for fisher, its all a lie,he's not hurt.I read that he will be ready to go for the first game.

Bru,i'm also told that this series will be a dream come true for you.

THE BEST PART WILL BE THE SENS F**KING  FLASHY BOY CROSBY RIGHT UP THE ASS.MALKIN IS ALSO A TARGET.SO YOU BETTER GET STOCKED UP IN TOILET PAPER(I DONT THINK YOU WILL NEED THE LUBE)

IF I HEAR ANYTHING ABOUT GERBER OR EMERY I WILL LET YOU KNOW.

Ottawa was put that high because of last year and the beginning of this year. Everyone knows that they have a great team and if they can manage to get the peices back together then they are a legitimate contender.

Ottawa Vs Pittsburgh:

Gerber is 4-0-1 against the Pens this season.

Fleury's stats are Horrible against Ottawa.

This will be the only upset to come out of the east if you can say Ottawa is an underdog. The Sens are too good & too experienced of a hockey club even though the sucked the bag the last 2 months. No-way do I see this team loosing in the 1st round to Pittsburgh.

Not that I don't like Pittsburgh but I find they are alittle over-rated. This team looks alittle to over confident heading into this series with an angry Ottawa team.

If Alfie comes back Sens will win.

As much as people say Ottawa won't be able to shut down Crosby & Malkin I don't see Pittsburgh shutting down Heatly/Spezza/Alfie.

Probably will be the more intense 1st round series to watch. My prediction:

Pittsburgh wins game 1 by a blowout
Ottawa wins game 2 by 1 goal
Pittsburgh wins game 3 in OT with controversial goal
Ottawa wins the next 3 convincingly

Sounds far-fetched but I went for an interesting playout of the series =)

Montreal vs Bruins:

I don't know how Montreal can lose this series. If they do it would be the biggest upset in a LONG time.

Stats are all in favor for Montreal.

Habs in 5/6

Alot of Hab fans are saying it will be a sweep but fans need to respect this Boston team and expect them to put up a fight against Montreal.

It will be very tough for Boston to play in Montreal....Heck, even in Boston there are a lot of Montreal fans. Home ice will have an effect in this series.

Bru,
when did "unlikeliest" get added to the dictionary? Was that a fraction of a second before you typed it? lolBetting odds do not always mean who is likely to win or lose since they also reflect how many bets and how much money has been placed for a team, which is probably one of the reasons the Sens are still so high with a possibly good portion having made early bets on them.

Finally an article I can sink my teeth into.  This is what the playoffs are all about.  Early April is Christmas time for the bookies.  This is when they cash in.  The playoffs are not about hockey, they're about the mafia making a healthy profit.

So let's get down to brass tax.  You can pretty much rule out the Flyers from winning the cup.  The bookies can't tolerate a 50-1 hit.  To quote Paul Newman in The Sting, "A bet like that could break us."

So then you have the Preds and Cappies at 40-1.  Look for heavy referee biases against these 2 teams in the first round.  Especially for the Caps (a possibly dangerous team).  The refs will try to put the kibosh on them.

The next set of teams are mediocre. right up until the Sens at 11-1.  Putting Ottawa that high sets off alarm bells.  The coterie might be planning a strategy to make Ottawa have a good playoff run.  BIDDERS BEWARE!  The Sens may have been selected by the secret fraternity.  That's good news for Sens fans.

Then all the teams with many regular season points top off the dessert.  All I can say is, these odds will highly influence those borderline penalty calls and disputed phantom goals.  Remember what happened with the Brett Hull OT "goal"?  Dallas won the cup because the bookies wanted it.  Look for the same scheme this time around.

A friend of mine claims he can use the force.  These are his predictions.

Boston over Montreal (7 games)
Pittsburgh over Ottawa (5 games)
Washington over Philadelphia (6 games)
NY Rangers over New Jersey (6 games)

Detroit over Nashville (5 games)
Calgary over San Joes (7 games)
Colorado over Minnesota (6 games)
Anaheim over Dallas (5 games)

Wow I thought the pens would have better odds than that. Man has Murray become a major cry-baby during this losing stretch. You can scratch him off my list of favorite GMs.

Both the Caps and the Flyers are steals at those odds.

The Sens and Ana are both way too expensive.

I don't understand how Dallas is so high if they are giving such good odds to Ana

The Penguins are 19-2-3 in their last 24 games at Mellon Arena.
I highly doubt the Sens win in 7 games... or at all!

The statistical eggheads in Vegas pay WAY too much attention to regular season points.  Any twit can look at the final standings and come up with that list.  I question their hockey knowledge.

To be fair, the list is also determined by who's more likely to be picked in bets.

Still, Dallas getting picked higher than Washington?  Gimme a break.  I'm telling you right now, the Caps would kill Dallas if they played head-to-head.  Ovechkin is a one man wrecking crew.

Re the Sens, clearly, the oddsmakers are afraid of Ottawa, or afraid they'd garner a lot of bets.

Ottawa has good odds because they are one of the most capable teams, they simply are dysfunctional right now.  If they get on their game, win the first round, they get Fisher, Alfredsson and Kelly back, Gerber plays like he did at the start of the season, then look out!
Its also measured by x factors.  If anyone remembers at the start of the 05/06 season, Pittsburgh was around 15-1 chance of winning the stanley cup, then finished the year close to the bottom.  Its about potential more than anything else, and then the probability they will meet that potential.
Plus, I fail to listen to vegas when they put the canes at lowest probability of winning the stanley cup in 05/06.  For a 50$ bet, you could have over 3000$ from them.

Reading people's predictions over the past 2 days, I notice most people don't think Anaheim will repeat.

Just goes to that the New York Islanders run of 19 straight playoff series wins (1980-84) is a record that will never be broken.

That was truly a great Islanders team back then, which I watched growing up.  I still use them as a measuring stick to judge other teams today.
