 | Yashin to make a return?/Pitkanen negotiations begining?/Demitra to Van-City? |
oilcountry88 writes "Rumors from the Ottawa Sun have reported Alexei Yashin could be ready for the NHL. Which teams are interested in him though?? Why would Demitra want Vancouver? How much would it cost for edmonton to have Pitkanen back?
About 7 years ago the Ottawa Senators made a blockbuster deal with the Islanders that sent Alexei Yashin to the Islanders for Zdeno Chara,Bill Muckalt and a first round draft pick which later turned out to be one of the current stars in the league, Jason Spezza in one of the worst trades in history, (At least you could say that today) Six years later the Islanders failed to go deep in the playoffs and Yashin was bought out by the team. Currently in Russia, Alexei has very much interest for a return to the NHL and rumor has it that the Montreal Canadiens and Minnesota Wild have lots of interest to signing to former star. Yashin had 16 goals and 43 points for his Russian team this year and was also named MVP of the league.
After the Oilers sent the rights of Joffrey Lupul and Jason Smith to Philadelphia for Geoff Sanderson and Joni Pitkanen the oilers quickly locked up the finnish defenceman to a one year contract worth 2.4 million. Now the Oilers would like to lock him up long-term however, Pitkanen says he would like to sign a short term deal for around 4 to 5 million per year. As an Oilers fan i would definetly love to see Joni back in the lineup for next season.
After missing the playoffs for 2 of the past 3 seasons the Vancouver Canucks would love to reshape their lineup. Names rumored in interest of Gillis are Demitra,Hossa,Campbell and even Alex Tanguay.Gillis was a former agent of Pavol Demitra which could help the Canucks of even more of a chance of getting him. The Canucks have about 11 million to spend on free agents depending on how much the salary cap goes up by.

I'd let him go to Russia like Yashin did, which reminds me why the heck would anyone want Yashin when he left because he couldn't get over 3mill a season. I wouldn't sign either player over 3 mill a year.
If Oilers want to make a serious statement for they're club I'd try to sign Redden. If they are planning on signing Pitkanen for that money why not spend a little more an get a GREAT two way defensemen. Could easily lead them in ice time an be the key piece into success on the PP an PK.
Let's say I'm a Vancouver fan,(I'm not), I question my teams offense. So Obviously I'm going to go after a big name like Hossa but lets not forget; do we resign Naslund back? I wouldn't I'd try an sign Hossa/Campbell. A team that is struggling offensively these two would really improve that area along with being able to help the PK as both do play on the PK an PP's. |

Re: Yashin to make a return?/Pitkanen negotiations begining?/Demitra to Van-City? (Score: 1) by PointMeAtTheSky on Tuesday, May 27 (User Info | Send a Message) | Yashin had one good season in Russia....that doesn't make up for years of underacheiving in the NHL...I think any team would be insane to give him 3-4 million dollars.
I agree that Pitkanen's contract should be short, but not for 4-5 million. If that is really how much he is seeking, he must have more ego than a Freudian textbook. After getting his career to a good start, he has been on a decline...still a talented defenseman, but not living up to his potential and getting injured too frequently.
I'd love to see Redden stay in Canada, and maybe a new locale would do him some good, but after the Souray situation, it would be very risky to commit the money it would take to nab Wade. That being said, I think it's possible that Lowe would go after him if he is unable to re-sign Pitkanen.
Vancouver certainly needs offense, but what they need is a balanced attack, not big contracts. So that would leave out Hossa and Campbell. I think Morrison and Naslund should be re-signed, but only if they're both willing to take no more than 3 million each. They are both still solid top 6 forwards, just not game-breaking top-line talent. Huselius, Stillman, Demitra and Prospal are all options. Maybe I'm dreaming, but if they could nab aboth Demitra and Prospal, that would be awesome:
Sedin-Sedin-Naslund Prospal-Morrison-Demitra Burrows-Kesler-Pyatt
Wicked Top-9.

Re: Yashin rocks!!! (Score: 1) by mojo19 on Tuesday, May 27 (User Info | Send a Message) | Well I'm a big Yashin fan and I would like to see him back in the NHL but as a Leafs fan I hope not with Montreal. Just so you all know, I do have a Yashin NYI jersey with the "C" which was purchased only month's before his buyout :(
Yashin in Minnesota could be a good fit and would a lot of sense, especially if Demitra decides to test the waters and go somewhere for closer to $6 million, Yashin would be a good replacement as a top centre.
Alexei Yashin is very underrated judging by some of the other comments I've seen on here and I think people forget how damn good this guy is because he was overpaid for so long. He's still a $4-5 million per season calibre player. And not really a playoff flop, just streaky. He's had some really good years in the playoffs and some really bad. Gamble but you can say that about a lot of players....
In conclusion, I heart Yashin |

Ive also heard many rumors lately of Pitkanen for Cole. Then they could just try to sign Redden. Could you imagine the new kid line looking like: Boedker Gagner Nilsson And the new defensive pairings of Redden Souray I might be dreaming but that would be sweet!
