 | Tampa Bay Update |
The St. Petersburg Times is reporting that the Lightning may need to find another investor to be able to keep Lecavailer in Tampa.
It is reported that Lecavailer is set to earn 10 million dollars next season and that the 10 million dollars will take up about a quarter of the teams entire payroll. Also of interest is that the Lightning have laid off about 30 employees since the end of the season and it is also reported that the Lightning were down about 2,000 people per game this season.
It is also reported in this article that the Lightning are apparently interested in bringing in Jacques Lemaire as a consultant.

Re: Tampa Bay Update (Score: 1) by cam7777 on Thursday, May 07 (User Info | Send a Message) | there's lots of good teams that could probably go out and get him. i could see boston making a couple big trades this summer, especially if things don't go their way in the carolina series...
to the lightning: patrice bergeron, zach hamill, 1st round pick, 3rd round pick to the bruins: vincent lecavalier
to the ducks: phil kessel, marco sturm to the bruins: chris pronger, 3rd round pick
the ducks shore up a 2nd line ( Sturm - Kessel - Selanne), the lightning get a decent package and shed vinny's contract, and the bruins replace kessel, sturm and bergeron (2 of the 3 were largely unnecessary in the teams strong performance this year) with chris pronger and vincent lecavalier.
The Sharks could offer up Thornton, and see if his shorter term contract merits any interest.
Personally, I don't think Lecavalier is the be-all-end-all superstar that he's talked up to be in the NHL. I know he had an injury plagued last couple of years, but it seems to me he hasn't done very much to merit a team trading half their roster to land him. He looks lazy at times, and I'm sure that's part of the downward spiral scenario in Tampa, but the guy just seems more interested in making sure his skin is neon orange from lying on the beach, than he is in leading his team through this rough time. With all that supposed offensive talent, that team should have been able to score themselves closer to the playoffs than they have, especially in what is arguably one of the weaker divisions in the league. None of those 5 teams play very defensively minded; you would think that would be an advantage for a team with Vinny, St.Louis, Stamkos, Prospal, Malone, Recchi, etc... And regardless of their weak defense, they had stellar goal-tending all year, and stll couldn't win. Where is Vinny? |

I'd love to see it and I'd love to see Jim put an offer in on the Bolts too! Bettmen's head would explode! |
