 | Lightning buying out Vinny Prospal's contract |
ERIK ERLENDSSON | The Tampa Tribune
TAMPA - The Tampa Bay Lightning on Tuesday informed left wing Vinny Prospal that the team is buying out the remaining three years of his contract.
Tampa Bay general manager Brian Lawton sent a letter of intent to Prospal and his agent informing them of the team's decision. Prospal has 24 hours to request not to be placed on waivers, otherwise he automatically goes through waivers and any team that picks him up would be responsible for the remaining $10.5 million on his contract. If he elects not to be placed on waivers, Prospal would receive the buyout and become an unrestricted free agent.
Prospal, who was reacquired from the Philadelphia Flyers before last season, signed a four-year contract worth $14 million last June. He has $10.5 million remaining on his deal.
Under the terms of the buyout, Prospal would receive two-thirds the remaining value of the contract spread out over twice the length of the remaining contract, which equates to $7 million over six years. By buying out the contract, the Lightning will take a salary cap hit of $1.167 for the next six seasons.

Re: Lightning buying out Vinny Prospal's contract (Score: 1) by mojo19 on Tuesday, July 28 (User Info | Send a Message) | Apparently they didn't get the message. The thing about Prospal is that he goes good year, bad year, good year, bad year, etc.
Observe his stats:
2002 - 55 pts 2003 - 79 pts 2004 - 54 pts 2006 - 80 pts 2007 - 55 pts 2008 - 71 pts 2009 - 45 pts
By my estimations, Prospal is due for no less than 70 points next season. |

Bourque - Langkow - Iginla Prospal - Jokinen - Dawes Glencross - Conroy - Moss Nystrom - Boyd - Sjostrom Prust, McGrattan
Bouwmeester - Phaneuf Regehr - Sarich Pardy - Giordano
That would be a sick team. |

If Anaheim can another scoring threat like Prospal...then they could be a threat in the NHL next year. The problem last years was scoring because they only had one line...but next year they have two.
Perry-Getzlaf-Ryan Lupul-Koivu-Selanne
and then you can form a decent theird line with Prospal |

Not only did he did not leave enough $$$ cap room to sign a first string goalie, but now there is absolutly no way he can go out and sign Prospal... Who's clearly the most perfect player available to play along side Daniel Briere. The only time Briere has not struggled in Philadelphia is the time when he briefly played with Prospal after he was aquired two seasons ago at the trade deadline. |
