 | Alfredsson plan to retire with Sens |
By Allen Panzeri, The Ottawa Citizen
There were times during his 15 years as a member of the Ottawa Senators that Daniel Alfredsson wondered if it might be a good idea to move on to another team.
There were also times, he says, when the team would have wondered the same.
But having come this far, and after singing an extension last year that will take him through the 2012-13 season, Alfredsson can’t see himself ever wearing a different NHL uniform.
He’ll win or lose with the Senators, he said on Monday, even if it means he could end his career without winning a Stanley Cup.
The temptation to move will certainly be there.
Soon to be 37 (on Dec. 11), Alfredsson would love to win a Stanley Cup to go with the Olympic gold medal he won with Sweden in 2006.
He’s not going to have too many more chances in Ottawa — and may not even get one this season — and there would be no shortage of teams willing to add a player of his calibre for a long playoff run.

Re: Alfredsson plan to retire with Sens (Score: 1) by hockey_lover on Wednesday, November 18 (User Info | Send a Message) | I dont believe he would request a trade. He does seem to love playing and living in Ottawa, although, ya never know.
As much as I love Alfie, Im not so sure there will be THAT many teams lining up to land him at the end of the 2012 - 2013 season. He will be 40 going on 41 at that time. There may be a couple of teams but not more than 2 or 3.
He's been pretty reliable the last few years (in terms of injuries) with only losing a couple of games each year. But I expect his point totals to start dropping slowly each year. By the time his contact ends, I wouldnt be shocked if his totals were around the 60pt mark. Thats still pretty good but at 41, will it be enough to take a chance on him?
