Marian Hossa was discussing the difference in the maturity level between the Blackhawks and his former team, the Red Wings, when fellow winger Dustin Byfuglien sidled up next to reporters as if to join in on the questioning.
"That's why I was talking about maturity," Hossa, 30, said with a laugh. "The difference is this is one of the youngest groups of guys I've ever played with. It's lots of fun in the dressing room. It's a different crowd than it was in Detroit. It might be a little bit more mature there, but it's fun in the (Hawks') room."
While Hossa is having a good time off the ice, he's yearning to get back on it, and that time has come as he is expected to make his Hawks debut Wednesday night against the Sharks.
Hossa has been sidelined since undergoing shoulder surgery 23 days after signing a 12-year, $62.8 million free-agent contract with the Hawks on July 1.
"This has been the first time I've ever missed training camp or the beginning of the season, and it's definitely not fun," said Hossa, who led the Wings with 40 goals last season.
"You have your own schedule. You're working for a long time all by yourself and with the conditioning trying to get into shape. Soon I'll be on the team's schedule, and I can't wait."
The Hawks are streaking even without Hossa as they have reeled off seven consecutive victories, including the first three games of a six-game trip, and have soared to a 15-5-2 record.
