 | HTR Feature Article: Sharp not worrying about trade talk |
Tim Sassone Patrick Sharp wants nothing more than to finish his career with the Blackhawks. But there are no guarantees he will even finish the season in Chicago.
Sharp is one of the Hawks who sees his name mentioned in trade rumors almost on a daily basis - most of them coming out of Toronto, where the Maple Leafs would love to add another offensive weapon.
It's not as if the Hawks want to trade the 27-year-old winger, or that general manager Stan Bowman is even thinking about moving Sharp.
But with the Hawks facing serious salary-cap issues going forward into next season, Sharp with his $3.9 million cap hit is someone speculators believe is a candidate to be traded at some point.
"We see the articles and we know the situation, but right now we're focused on today and this season," Sharp said Tuesday. "Whatever is going to happen with the cap situation and player movement, we'll address that when it happens. Right now we're trying to win a Stanley Cup."
Sharp is one of the most valuable and popular Hawks, so it would need to be a heck of an offer to deal him.
"I love Chicago and I want to be here, but it's part of the game, part of professional sports," Sharp said. "Everyone looks at our team and sees the good players we have and rumors are going to start.
"This is the first time I've actually been through it and I'm trying to deal with it, but I try not to read into it too much."
Sharp had 1 goal in 12 games before facing Columbus on Tuesday, but he dished out 9 assists during that span.

I think we could get Ellis from Nashville if we give up somebody like Kulemin or Ponikovski maybe more, I don't know maybe a package deal with Ellis and Blum coming our way? personally I think we should Reimer a chance. I want to see what hes got. If that fails then maybe look into a deal.

Re: Sharp not worrying about trade talk (Score: 1) by DannyLeafs (dude@dudemail.com) on Thursday, December 03 (User Info | Send a Message) | Ok, I am at work and extremely bored, so here are some trade suggestions for consideration, to spark discussion, or simply to rip apart if you feel so inclined.
For the first one let me just say that it is in response to the idea that Patrick Sharp may be shopped during the season, even though I don't think it makes any sense to move him until the offseason.
To Chicago: F- Stajan F- Ponikarovsky F- Tlusty D- White D- Exelby
To Toronto: F-Sharp D-Barker D-Sopel
First off, yes this deal is highly unlikely, but lets break it down. If Chicago were to make a move involving Sharp, I believe it would have to give them at least a little of everything they need right now. First off, they want a 2/3rd line center, a two-way winger that can soften the blow of losing Sharp, some cap relief, an upgrade on defense, and some longer term value in the form of a pick or prospect. To me this deal does all of those things. White is an upgrade on Barker, he has been just as good offensively, better defensively, plays more minutes, has an expiring RFA contract for less money, and is likely resignable for less. Exelby provides defensive depth with an expiring contract to replace sopel. Therefore this is easily a win for Chicago in the defense department. Next, Stajan is ideal for replacing Bolland while injured, as once Bolland returns, Stajan can easily be moved to the third line and play more of a checking role. Ponikarovsky puts up consistent numbers in the 20 goal range, and is a perennial plus player who kills penalties, and plays a solid game at both ends of the ice. Between them Stajan and Ponikarovsky can easily replace the production lost in Sharp, and also help to alleviate the loss of their best penalty killer. Finally, Tlusty is added to sweeten the deal, and provide some long term value in the event that none of the players added are re-signed by Chicago. Toronto gets Sharp who is a player that addresses many needs. He is a good leader, a top six winger, and an excellent penalty killer. Toronto also adds Barker, who right now is not as capable a defender as White, but is believed to still have the potential to grow into a top pairing defensemen. Finally, Sopel is likely a candidate for a demotion. All in all, I think this trade makes logical sense for both teams (provided that Bowman thinks its logical to deal Sharp mid season).
Next deal.
To Islanders: F- Nathan Horton F- Dominic Moore
To Panthers: F-Josh Bailey 2nd Rd Draft Pick
I guess people are surprised its not a deal involving the leafs, but I think it's an interesting scenario that makes sense. The Islanders add scoring that allows them to compete for a playoff spot this season. Horton is still young so he still has value in the long term. Moore is basically to fill the center position opened by moving Bailey. The Panthers get a young player that could be a good fit for a team that needs a big center. He isn't exactly huge at 6'1 190, but once he fills out, size will definitely not be an issue. They also get a 2nd round pick. Even though the Panthers are only one point behind the Islanders in the standings, I believe that they really aren't a playoff team. They don't have much in the way of high end potential, and even if they eeked into the playoffs, they aren't likely to be very effective. The Islanders aren't likely to make much noise in the playoffs either, but simply making it in would be a marketing dream come true for the organization. Not even Ovechkin or Crosby led their teams into the playoffs in their rookie season, so if Tavares is able to do it, it would be huge for the organization.
Next,
To Mapleleafs: G-Roloson
To Islanders: F-Blake
This was mainly an after thought to the Florida deal. If Moore gets moved to the Islanders, it may be a cheap way to bring in some added scoring by reun
