Hockey is the game canadians can't seem to get enough of. It's like an addiction similar to playing the spin palace casino games. But most importantly it is down to the loyalty as a fellow canadian to follow the country's number 1 sport!

Trade Rumors: No-trade clause eases Vinny Lecavalier's mind

Lightning blank
Damian Cristodero, Times Staff Writer

Vinny Lecavalier said he heard the rumor, first reported by the Ottawa Sun, that the Rangers tried to start trade talks for him, but he didn't think much of it.

Tampa Bay general manager Brian Lawton called the rumor "completely false," but Lecavalier said he hardly paid attention.

It's nice when you have a clause in your contract that says you can't be traded without your permission.

So, instead of fretting over rumors, as he did last season, when predictions about his departure to the Canadiens were a constant distraction, Lecavalier, whose no-move clause is in his 11-year, $85 million deal that began this season, can relax.

"It's a totally different situation than last year," he said. "Last year was very nerve-wracking. You're not sure about your future or if you are going somewhere. So, I hear all the stuff, but it's not something I really think about."

Lecavalier said he has not been asked to waive his no-move clause. He loves living in Tampa and wants to remain.

Would he block any proposed trade? Neither Lecavalier nor his agent, Kent Hughes, said that; smart, considering the team's unsettled ownership situation.

"The only thing I can say is given that Vinny has the no-move clause, if Tampa Bay was working on a deal, my expectation is we would hear from them first," Hughes said, adding that has not happened.

Still, expect rumors to percolate to the March 4 trade deadline. They are a byproduct of a team down in the standings and struggling financially. The logic is Tampa Bay, without Lecavalier's $10 million salary obligation, would have more flexibility to build around teenage stars Steven Stamkos and Victor Hedman.

I think Tampa its coming time that they should trade him.
Montreal seems a likely destination.

To Montreal

Vinny Lecavalier
Andrei Meszaros
Mike Lundin
Vladimir Mahalik

To Tampa
Scott Gomez
Roman Hamrlik
Jaroslav Halak
1st Rounder
Matthieu Carle

Salaries are even. Goalie problem for both teams is solved. Tampa gets salary relief. Montreal gets the number center they want badly. Montreal gets defensive depth.

I was recently thinking about Vinnys contract and have realized that its one BAD contract.... not so bad in present and near future... but after a few years its gonna be one of those contracts you wish you didnt have... think about it...

The contract lasts until the guy is 40 years old.... now thats even to say he plays that long....  but he's a 7.7 million cap hit for the next ten years... once it reaches the 5th 6th 7th 8th years of that contract, how many people are going to be thinking that maybe a 7.7 mill cap hit was a bad idea for 11 years.... who ever ends up with the tail end of his contract is gonna wish they hadnt made that deal....

thats unless theres something im missing in his contract that lowers the cap hit in later years.... but as far as my knowledge goes of the CBA theres no renegotiations allowed throughout the duration of a contract and its an average dollar amount for the cap hit.... Hence why in his last year he's only gettin paid 1 million but still has that 7.7 hit

itll be a risky deal trading for him... and im thinking maybe because of this matter it might bring his value down even a bit more...

sticky situation someone will be in .... hoping its not MTL
