 | SENATORS ACQUIRE CULLEN FROM HURRICANES |
It's been a busy morning for general manager Bryan Murray in Ottawa. Fresh off the news of his one-year contract extension, Murray and the Ottawa Senators have added forward Matt Cullen from the Carolina Hurricanes for defenceman Alexandre Picard and a second round draft pick.
Cullen, who has 12 goals and 28 assists in 60 games played this season, could be a boost to the Senators 27th ranked power-play, as he spent time in Carolina playing at the point on their power-play unit.
Murray also said on Friday that the club would not be trading Anton Volchenkov, who will become an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season, and indicated that the club had already made the defenceman a contract offer.

Re: SENATORS ACQUIRE CULLEN FROM HURRICANES (Score: 1) by sensnation on Friday, February 12 (User Info | Send a Message) | So the Habs send a 2nd round pick (currently #44 overall) to Florida for Dominic Moore, who has all of 17 points this year, while the Sens send a second round pick (currently #55 overall) and Alex Picard, a healthy scratch for one quarter of the season who will now be with his 4th team in just 3 years, for Matt Cullen who has 12 goals, 40 points, and an even +/- on the 14th place in the Eastern Conference.
Gotta say I am liking this trade. Though I do expect another deal, one of our spare forwards for a spare defenceman.
Michalek - Spezza - Foligno Kelly - Fisher - Alfredsson Shannon - Cullen - Kovalev Neil - Regin - Ruutu Spares: Cheechoo, Donovan, Winchester
Phillips-Volchenkov Karlsson-Kuba Campoli-Carkner Spares: Lee
