Hockey is the game canadians can't seem to get enough of. It's like an addiction similar to playing the spin palace casino games. But most importantly it is down to the loyalty as a fellow canadian to follow the country's number 1 sport!

HTR Feature Article: The Edmonton Oilers have gone from worst to first.

Oilers blank

Two days after finishing the regular season with the league's worst record, the Oilers won Tuesday's annual draft lottery to secure the top pick in the June draft. It marks the fourth time in five years that the league's worst team has ended up with the top pick.

The Boston Bruins will draft second. Boston secured Toronto's first-round pick in an off-season trade that sent forward Phil Kessel to the Maple Leafs.

The rest of the draft order also remained the same. The Florida Panthers will select third, followed by the Columbus Blue Jackets and the New York Islanders.

Tampa Bay, Carolina, Atlanta, Minnesota and the New York Rangers round out the top 10, followed by Dallas, Anaheim, Phoenix and St. Louis.

The draft will be held June 25-26 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.

Barring a trade, the Oilers will become the first Canadian team to select first since 1996, when the Ottawa Senators chose defenceman Chris Phillips. It will also mark the first time Edmonton has had the first overall pick.

Hopefully the Oilers use this to do a total rebuild in the proper manner.  You have one high draft pick.  Trade some of your older guys for other picks and get a good prospect pool in place.  As the team develops (hopefully in the right direction) from there they may very well find it easier to land FA's to compliment their young talent.

As for Boston, well...we now have part of the equation.  They will in all likelyhood be getting Hall or Seguin as part of the return on Kessel, and they still have the other half of the return to go.  Now anything could happen and both those players could be crap I guess.  But you have to be pretty satisfied if you're either the Bruins or the Leafs with this trade at THIS point.  Next year will tell a lot more.  If the Leafs hand over another top 3 or even top 5 pick then you gotta feel that the trade tilts in favour of the B's.  Unless their picks turn to sh!t.

I wonder if the Bruins pay up something to move up. 2nd rounder maybe? Or Marchand? Basically Seguin and Marchand/2nd, for Hall?
