 | CANADIENS' SUBBAN FILLS VOID LEFT BY MARKOV'S ABSENCE |
PITTSBURGH -- The Montreal Canadiens wanted to allow prospect P.K. Subban to spend a full season in the minors before making the jump to the show, but injuries and other cir*****stances forced them to call up the exciting defenceman in the playoffs. In a big Game 2 road victory Sunday afternoon in Pittsburgh, Subban showed just how ready he was for this type of challenge.
Playing his fourth career playoff game and only his sixth NHL game of any kind, Subban stepped into a void left by the absence of Andrei Markov and shone in a 3-1 Canadiens win that allowed them to steal home-ice advantage away from the Penguins.
"I just try to be confident," the 20-year-old Toronto native said. "I haven't played in the NHL all year, so I just try to do everything with confidence. Hopefully it helps the team."
It helped his team immensely Sunday as Subban spent more than 23 minutes on the ice, displaying his flair and poise with the puck nearly every time he touched it.
The Canadiens have often looked lost without the puck-moving presence of Markov , posting a 14-20-3 record this season without their top defenceman. But Subban's play on Sunday lessened the blow of losing Markov to a lower body injury in Game 1, one that will keep him out of uniform indefinitely.
The biggest criticism of Subban's game was that he wasn't ready to play in his own end without the puck at the NHL level. But he played just over half of the six minutes of power-play time the Penguins enjoyed in the third period while Montreal was clinging to a one-goal lead and did not look the least bit out of place.

It seems like Timmins sucks in the 1st round but then does really well after that maybe the Habs should hire a different Scout for the 1st round of the draft,LOL!

FORWARDS Scott Gomez ($7.357m) / Mike Cammalleri ($6.000m) / * Tomas Plekanec ($5.500m) Brian Gionta ($5.000m) / Andrei Kostitsyn ($3.250m) / * Benoit Pouliot ($1.500m) * Dominic Moore ($1.500m) / Travis Moen ($1.500m) / * Glen Metropolit ($1.000m) * Maxim Lapierre ($1.000m) / * Sergei Kostitsyn ($0.900m) / * Tom Pyatt ($0.850m) DEFENSEMEN Andrei Markov ($5.750m) / Jaroslav Spacek ($3.833m) Hal Gill ($2.250m) / Josh Gorges ($1.100m) Ryan O'Byrne ($0.942m) / P.K. Subban ($0.875m) Yannick Weber ($0.875m) GOALTENDERS * Jaroslav Halak ($4.000m) / * Carey Price ($2.000m) CAPGEEK.COM TOTALS ROSTER: 21; PAYROLL: $56.982m; CAP ROOM: $0.055m BONUSES: $0.237m
By the way we need to rid of the Kostitsyn brothers.,... trade them to Edmonton... Edmonton will take any garbage of other teams... hahaha...
Annnd Price realistically doesnt deserve 2 million.... and Halak doesnt deserve 4..... what they'll sign for is another question... but i think a short term contract with lower numbers with the possibility to resign if their play continues to be solid..... |

You're boasting decent prospects like their God, which you have accused Leafs fans over the past few years.
If PK Subban is gonna win Norris, heck lets give an award for Tyler Bozak. He's made as much as an impact as PK or even more. He's played with guys beyond his years, and has done so greatly so heres the second coming of Sid the Kid everybody. HIS NAME IS TYLER BOZAK...
Now for the reality: Tyler Bozak will be a second-line center at his potential...
Now for the reallity for Habs fans: PK Subban will most likely be a top-four pairing at worst, top-guy at best, but Norris trophy candidate...
Last time I checked:
-Theirs Pietrangelo -Theirs Doughty -Theirs Bogosian -Theirs Green -Theirs Keith -Theirs Green -Theirs Erik Johnson -Theirs Shea Weber
Theirs a freaking a whole lot of freaking young highly ranked d-men before Subban...

Re: CANADIENS' SUBBAN FILLS VOID LEFT BY MARKOV'S ABSENCE (Score: 1) by DannyLeafs (dude@dudemail.com) on Tuesday, May 04 (User Info | Send a Message) | I am not trying to get a rise out of Canadiens fans with this, but I do think people need to temper their expectations with young defensemen. They are so much harder to project than Forwards. Leafs fans had similar expectations of young defensemen like Ian White, and Carlo Colaiacovo. I am not trying to say that Subban will be no better, he has the potential and skill to be a top pairing defensemen, I am just saying that with defensemen, expectations need to be tempered.
When you look at the best defensemen in the league, there is a mix of guys that have always been highly touted, and guys that seemed to come out of nowhere. It's very rare that the best defensemen taken in a draft is the one that was taken first, and quite often defensemen's junior scouting reports don't give a good indication of what type of player they will be. There are defensemen who's offensive game seems to come out of nowhere, (Weber, Kronwall, Enstrom), to guys that became shutdown stay at home defenders despite being chosen for their offensive flair (Seabrook, Volchenkov, Jackman). For almost every defensmen that lives up to their original billing there are two that don't, and no matter where you look, there is an example of how unpredictable defensive prospects can be.
I am not trying to say that Subban won't be great, or isn't likely to be, but you want to be careful not to build expectations too much, because it would be a shame to give up on him because he turned into a solid top four guy who was good on the PP instead of a Norris finalist.
