Hockey is the game canadians can't seem to get enough of. It's like an addiction similar to playing the spin palace casino games. But most importantly it is down to the loyalty as a fellow canadian to follow the country's number 1 sport!

What to do With the Bruins

Bruins Boston_Bruins writes "Well it happened again. Game 7 of the second round, except the Bruins happened to pull off the biggest choke in sports history this time. This is the type of loss that demands changes, so here's what I'd do this offseason if I were Chiarelli.

At the draft:

Start off with drafting Hall or Seguin 2nd overall. Do not trade up. There isn't enough separating the players to do that. I'm pretty sure the Oilers will go with Hall after the Memorial Cup though.

Hopefully land one of Skinner or Etem at 15. Don't shop the pick.

For Trades:

Do anything to get rid of Ryder and Wideman. Their play did improve but with the Bruins so tight to the cap they need to go. Thomas as well.

Paille and Wheeler have to go. Dime a dozen players. I'm sure they can get something for Wheeler as a RFA though.

For Resignings:

Bring back Recchi. That's a no-brainer.

Try to bring back Satan , but I doubt they'll be able to sign him at an affordable rate.

If they can get rid of Wideman , bring back all three of Seidenberg , Boychuk and Stuart. If they can't get rid of Wideman try to get something for Stuart in a trade. If Seidenberg asks for more than $4 million or Stuart asks for more than $2.5 million let them walk, but not both of them.

Bring back Sobotka .

Bring back Bodnarchuk and Mcquaid for depth.

Resign Thornton.

Let Begin walk.

Leadership:

Strip Chara o the C and give him the A. Bergeron the C with Recchi and Savard the other A's.

So, my ideal line-up not taking into account the return for Thomas, Wheeler, Ryder, Paille and Wideman:

Lucic
-Savard -Seguin
Sturm -Bergeron -Recchi
Sauve -Krejci -Caron
Thornton-Sobotka -Marchand

Chara -Seidenberg
Boychuk -Stuart
Ference -Hunwick

Rask
UFA

I really think Sauve is the next second round steal for the Bruins and could be ready next year, although I'm sure a UFA would take his place instead. I definitely think Caron is ready. Ideally you'd see Satan on Krejci's line but it might not be realistic. Sobotka and Marchand would be perfect on the fourth line and Thornton brings alot to the team as well. Sturm can stay as he only has one year left on his deal, plus a NTC.

ALL of the focus next offseason should be resigning Bergeron, which is a main reason I'd like to see some cap room cleared. Chara at a discount would be nice too. "

I say nothing...It ended dissapointedly for the Bruins, but one thing that did happen was the team nearly went to the conference finals on a depleted lineup.

Look, Savard was not in game shape, Lucic, though healthy, was injured all year and in a sophmore slump, Krejci was in one to but he also got inured, Wideman broke out of his sophmore slump at the end of the season...

The teams in the rigt direction and adding Taylor Hall (try to get the 1st pick) will give em a scoring winger that they lost with Kessel.

My prediction...They will be a Stanley Cup contender next year

Where to begin? Where to place the blame? Oh..wow...what a painful experience for a Bruins fan. Everyone who pokes fun, get a grip and grow up already.

I will be the first to admit that I criticized this team and been up and down with a lot of players throughout the season and then they go on this ride to what should have been the confernce finals and who knows very well the Stanley Cup.

This ending was very painful. You could just see the series shift when Krecji went down and Gagne came back. The bottom line is Boston has too many underachievers that are paid well and do not produce. Wheeler, Ryder, Wideman, I guess you can even say Thomas. Perhaps Chiarelli does not know how to effectively manage the cap. He is struggling to find the right mix. A lot of good players and too many bag of crap players.

Where are Boston's stars in game 7's? Where is Savard, where is Chara, where is Bergeron? These guys have to produce! They can't rely on Lucic and Recchi to do everything. Briere, Richards, Hartnell and Gagne completely outclassed the Bruin forwards in the last 4 games. I can say this because I am Bruins fan, but this was utterly embarrassing. I am embarrased to be a Bruins fan right now.

Here is my analysis:

Lucic - Wow!! This guy really stepped up late in the Philly series. He was by far, hands down the best player on the ice for the Bruins. Quite possibly the best player on both teams. He was so dominant down low and even Pronger could not contain him. He looks to be healed and on a mission. The future looks bright for him. A true warrior, just the kind of player that you need in the playoffs. Bruins need more of this type of player.

Savard - Ouch! I guess he may still be recovering from the concussion. He looked horrible in my opinion, outside of game 1. When Boston needed their best player to step up and produce he did nothing. Philly's best players stepped up and that is why they won. Savard did nothing offensively. I find he goes away in the playoffs and when the games get a bit physical and the speed of the game goes to the next level. He is a below average skater and gets eaten up because of that. 5 million is a good number for him cause it doesn't break the bank, but he really needs to be a star in these game 7's.

Recchi and Satan -  Don't need to say much. They played great. Make it a priority to sign Recchi to 1 yr (1-2 million). Satan if they can afford it the same contract. Do not sign a 2 yr deal. If so he will be invisible next year.
Great depth players at decent salaries. You cannot find skill players this cheap.

Bergeron - A complete player. One of the better players the Bruins had going. He needs to produce though. Richards sure did. I didn't see Bergeron score many goals?

Ryder - Scores a big goal in game 7 to open the game. Makes a terrific play in the Buffalo series to set up Satan on the OT winner. But really, that is it. He can be dangerous offensively at times and scores in spurts. But the bottomline he is paid 4 million a season. He was on the 3rd line in the playoffs. The 4 million dollar forwards have to step up in the playoffs, they can't play on the 3rd line!! Look at Philly major production from Gagne, Hartnell, and especially Briere and Richards. The salary cap is too crucial, you cannot have guys like Ryder making 4 million and doing nothing. They need to move him some how, some way. Trade Ryder and a 1st or 2nd rounder for something else?? Maybe they can find a salary dump trade for him. Boston has lot of draft picks. Couldn't they trade Ryer and a 2nd rounder at the draft to Toronto for whoever that is cheap?

Wideman - I apologize to "future bruin." I stuck up for Wideman the other week and I kind of take that back. Wideman probably needs to go. He is very sloppy in his own zone and make careless, cute plays everywhere on the ice that result in bad turnovers. Also the bottomline is he needs to produce more. Perhaps they give him another go this season a

What to do?

Trade #2 overall to the Panthers for #3 overall, #33 overall and Michal Repik.

Select Cam Fowler with #3 overall. (Panthers select Seguin)

Trade #17 overall, #32 overall and #47 overall to Dallas for #11 overall and #71 overall.

Select Jeff Skinner with #11 overall (heck of a RW sniper, just what Boston needs).

Cross fingers for Derek Forbort (D) or John Merill (D) to still be available at #33 overall. Draft the best player available if they're both gone.

I really think the biggest need for the B's in terms of young talent is an all-star D. I think that a RW like Skinner will do magic for Boston, thus lessing the need for a superstar like Hall. On the other hand, guys like Pysyk, Forbort or Merill (probable mid to late 1rst round picks) are far from being at Fowler's level.

Otherwise, the Bruins don't need any major shakeup. If they stay healthy, it should be enough to be very competitive again. Look at this :

Lucic - Savard - Skinner
Wheeler - Krejci - Ryder
Sturm - Bergeron - Recchi
Paille - Sobotka - Thornton
Marchand

Chara - Hunwick
Wideman - Stuart
Boychuk - Ference
McQuaid

Rask
Thomas

Fowler is ready to make the jump when Wideman's contract is up. Wheeler will cost less than his actual 2.875 cap hit, so it might turn out to be a bargain. Dan Paille will cost a cheap million. Same for Sobotka. Same for Recchi. Thornton? 750K. Mark Stuart will cost something like 1.75-2.25, and Boychuk shouldn't get more than 1.5. McQuaid and Bodnarchuk will both make the league minimum, or close.

This should bring the B's close to the cap ceiling, with maybe 1-2 million free. They will be able to make a play for a big-time d-man at the deadline, maybe someone like Bieksa, Jovanovski or Pitkanen. Or who knows, Tomas Kaberle may be wearing a B's sweater by the start of the year.

Is this possible for the Bruins next year?

* Thomas to Philidelphia for Gagne and Boucher. This only possible if goaltending finally catches up to Philly and they get hammered by Montreal.
* Trade Marco Sturm, 1st round pick (Bos), 2nd round Pick (TB) for Clowe
Probably not possilbe. Maybe the get swept by Chicago and blow it up.
* If you cannot trade Sturm to SJ, trade him somewhere, and sign Raffi Torres to a 3 year 3.5 million per
* Trade Ryder, Wheeler, 2nd rounder (Tor), 1st rounder (TOR) in 2011 for Kaberle.
* resign Recchi, 1 year, 1 million
* resign Satan 1 year, 2 million
* resign Paille, 2 years, 1 million per
* resign Boychuk, 4 years 1.5 million
* resign Stuart, 4 years 2 million

Lucic        Savard    Gagne
Clowe     Bergeron  Recchi
Satan       Krejci      Seguin
Paille       Sobotka  Thornton

Kaberle         Chara
Wideman      Stuart
Ference         Boychuk
Hunwick

Rask
Boucher

* They add Kaberle which strengthens their back end.
* Add a sniper in Gagne
* Plug Seguin into the lineup should add some goal scoring depends who he quickly he develops.
* Trade for Clowe or Torres, adds that physical dimension for the playoffs.
