According to a report, it appears that Ilya Kovalchuk is on the verge of re-signing with the New Jersey Devils. The New York Post is reporting that the unrestricted free agent, who played the final 27 games of last season with the Devils, is going to sign a seven-year, $60 million contract with the team as soon as Monday.

I'd take Parise over Kovalchuk anyday. Greene will be looking for a pretty big raise next year as well.
Arnott might go even though they just got him. It will probably be tough to move Rolston. Elias is one of the faces of that franchise and it might be hard to move him with that contract anyways. |

Then again, they could still get him. it is afterall the NY Post, not the most solid of hockey sources around.

I really like Kovalchuk. He has gotten a bad rap for some reason. He has been buried in Atlanta and yah maybe they should have made the playoffs more, but they are a junk organization. It stills blows me away how Don Wadell even has a job still. I think Kovalchuk did a fine job in the playoffs with NJ, he was all over the ice and had lots of scoring chances, but just didn't get it done.
I wish Boston had the room for him. I'd take him at 8.5 million any day. In the right lineup he is almost a lock to score 50 goals. At least 40 anyways.

If this goes through this may mean Parise won't be wearing a Devils uniform after next year. I can only hope the Bruins would sign him if he reaches RFA status, but Chiarelli may be hesitant to give up draft picks for him. |
