Hockey is the game canadians can't seem to get enough of. It's like an addiction similar to playing the spin palace casino games. But most importantly it is down to the loyalty as a fellow canadian to follow the country's number 1 sport!
 | HTR Feature Article: Kings, Maple Leafs and Rangers are believed to have expressed interest in Gagne |
The only NHL team currently operating above the NHL salary cap, the Flyers have until the start of the regular season on Oct. 7 to trim their payroll to $59.4 million. They are believed to be in trade talks with a handful of NHL teams interested in Gagne, who has one year and $5.25 million remaining on his contract.
Those talks could be predicated on the status of unrestricted free agent Ilya Kovalchuk, who is immersed in contract negotiations with the Los Angeles Kings.
The Kings, Maple Leafs and Rangers are believed to have expressed interest in Gagne, who has played his entire 10-year career in Philadelphia.

Re: Kings, Maple Leafs and Rangers are believed to have expressed interest in Gagne (Score: 1) by MystifoLeafs on Wednesday, July 14 (User Info | Send a Message) | | Toronto can make this happen pretty simply but they would need to find the right teams to conduct this properly
Step 1.
Bury the Finger contract in the minors that will free up some cap space easy.
Step 2. The hardest step is to find a team that is willing to take on Grabo for nothing in return maybe a 3rd/4th Draft pick or a unsigned prospect
With these few steps the Maple leafs would be under the cap plus would have some draft picks they could use to sweeten the pot with Philly.
Seeing how philly will want to tak on 0$ for gagne or a very little amount it could very well be one of the Toronto goalie prospects out the door maybe someone like Reimer and possibly some other prospects with draft picks off to Philly. I would like something like this.
TOR:
Gagne
PHI:
3rd TOR 3rd/4th from Grabo trade Reimer Sweatt rights
Figure this trade would open up a few doors for the Flyers giving them a option to put some pressure on say Brocher and Leighton in net, Also if they needed to seeing how Leighton may be looking for a starter role they can always deal brocher to some team for assets.
This also leaves the idea that Toronto can use their beloved Kaberle to boster maybe their center position or as some people are thinking doing a swap of Setoguichi for Kaberle but I don't see that happening if Toronto gets Gagne I would rather see Kaberle get traded for a Puck moving Center like Savard. |

Can't they just sign him and be done with it!! Other teams can't get on with deals until these two put pen to paper. I'll bet you there will be at least 3 big deals within 2 weeks after they finally lay this one to rest....well maybe not big deals but definitely of some significance. |

Re: Kings, Maple Leafs and Rangers are believed to have expressed interest in Gagne (Score: 1) by nordiques100 on Wednesday, July 14 (User Info | Send a Message) | I think the Flyers would want a young roster player back and that may be Hanson.
I think they'd probably want a good prospect, perhaps one of D'Amigo or Sweatt
They'd probably want the leaf's 2nd rounder at least. even then, i dont feel Toronto has enough to give. probably another ok prospect like Blacker or Aulie.
Gagne is a good player.
Leaf fans have been asking for the moon for Kaberle. Gagne has score 40 goals twice, 30 on two other occasions.
he is only 30. he too is a rental, and if the sentiment is, well we cant give up much for a rental who could leave us in a year, well that argument applies to Kaberle too. you cannot deny that.
also, he's been a winner, an all-star, and while he wasnt fantastic in the cup final, he was pretty darn good in helping the Flyers come back against Boston.
Injury concerns? yes. but in the last 2 seasons he's played 137 games. Kaberle? 139. I am not overly concerned.
many good hockey minds speak glowingly of Gagne. like i said, a really good player.
but i doubt this happens. i dont feel Toronto has enough. I like to be realistic about it before we start going on how Caputi is a non-starter for Jeff Carter of all people. wow.

Why would we target Gagne and not Savard. If we're lucky we'd get 45 games out of Gange and then he's a UFA. We're going to burn the few prospects we have left to land this guy? A player we can't deal at the deadline when we're out of playoff contention?
I'm not big on Savard and I'd want a lot more than Gagne.
I love Burke but his off season has been completely unsatisfying.
PS
Please spare me the pointing out of the Ledba signing, I get that is was a cute shrwed deal and the Vesteeg deal was ok.
