 | GUILTY VERDICT IN KHABIBULIN IMPAIRED DRIVING TRIAL |
Edmonton Oilers' goalie Nikolai Khabibulin was convicted Friday of three charges related to drunk driving and speeding in Arizona earlier this year. The four-time all-star could face up to six months in jail when he is sentenced Tuesday.
Khabibulin was also found guilty of excessive speeding. His lawyer, Mark Dubeil, said in an email that one charge of impaired to the slight degree was dismissed.
Police said when Khabibulin was pulled over on Feb. 8, his blood alcohol content was .164, over twice the state limit.
Court do*****ents indicated he was clocked going 110 kilometres per hour in a 70 km/h zone in his Ferrari.
The 37-year-old played for Phoenix from 1996-99 and still has a home in Paradise Valley.
The offences carry a minimum jail sentence of 30 days or a maximum sentence of six months.

Re: GUILTY VERDICT IN KHABIBULIN IMPAIRED DRIVING TRIAL (Score: 1) by reinjosh on Sunday, August 29 (User Info | Send a Message) | hockey_lover and anyone else that cares to comment, what do you think about the Penguins this year, specifically the top 6.
I like what Shero did by solidifying the defense with Martin and Michalek. While neither by themselves can replace Gochar, together than can replace his assists and with another year comes more development in Letang and Goligoski. Should be a solid if unspectacular defense who can chip in points when needed. Should help Fluery, which is the real key to me.
While Shero made some good moves on defense, I don't think he did enough on offense. Losing Guerin is going to hurt I think, and more than just in goals. I do like the idea of moving up Staal and I think its a smart one that needed to be done. To me though, Shero failed hard in fixing his biggest need, that being the need of a scoring winger. Unless Tangradi (or some other prospect) comes out like a bat out of hell than the team has a serious weakness on the wing. Dupuis probably an underrated guy that can fit on the second line but getting a guy on Crosby's (or Staal's) wing would be huge.
I think with the addition of Michalek, Orpik is expendable. If negotiations continue to go nowhere between Bobby Ryan and Anaheim and they become more open to a trade, Pittsburgh should try to offer Orpik, Tangradi, a 2011 first and whatever else necessary to get him. Make the deal conditional on him signing, maybe a 15 million over 3 years (what he wants and so that you can still have the cap space to lock up Crosby). Getting Ryan would be huge and would make them huge favorites.
Kunitz - Crosby - Dupuis and Ryan - Staal - Malkin That would be huge.

Re: GUILTY VERDICT IN KHABIBULIN IMPAIRED DRIVING TRIAL (Score: 1) by reinjosh on Sunday, August 29 (User Info | Send a Message) | So while reading MSP's Maple Leaf Annual for 2010-2011 I came across a couple interesting tidbits. (sorry most non-Leaf fans who won't care, but this isn't for you).
Apparently the Leafs were not the one's who initiated the Hayes to Chicago for a 2nd deal. Apparently Chicago came to them and the deal only happened because Ross was still on the board at the time.
Secondly, apparently the Red Wings heavily scouted and were very interested in Sandre Olden on the recommendation of the Leafs head European scout and were a little miffed at the Leafs grabbing him only two spots before the Wings picked in the third round (when the Leafs traded their 2012 third rounder for LA's this year). The Wings decided to get back at the Leafs by grabbing Pulkinenn. So we missed out on him to get Olden.

For instance, if Toronto traded Bozak would his bonuses still count against the Leafs cap as they were earned in the previous year and the team aquiring him would only take a .825 hit or would the other team take his 3.75 hit? I'm assuming it's the former but not certain.
