Leaf_Expert writes "Just a list of of players that have been rumored to be on the Trading Block for the Maple Leafs, and what they could bring in return.....
Jonas Hoglund: Is over paid and has over stayed his welcome!
Bryan McCabe: After showing signs of a Norris type defensemen in the playoffs, McCabe has not lived up to expectations. -Would only be traded to bring in a stud type defensmen.
Karl Pilar: The Leafs have too many defensive prospects ready to come in and by the looks of it the Leafs would rather go with Belak's toughness as a 7th defenseman, mostly because Pilar could get more value in return.
Alyn McCauley: Has not been what he was thought to be in the playoffs and has not been a force at all offensivly. But does have a terrific defensive upside. - Could be used in a package deal with another name.(i.e. McCauley, McCabe for Lapointe, McLaren).
Travis Green: He was rumored earlier this the season to be involved in a trade with Florida. Don't know why the Leafs would trade him as he shows nothing but effort and heart every night.
Shayne Corson: The Leafs were trying to deal Corson in the offseason and early this season, but Corson replied quickly by saying he will not waive his trade clause. It was also rumorewd the Leafs would deal Tucker to get ride of Corson, but Corson has stated he is commited to the Leafs with or without Tucker(who Quinn denied was on the block anyways). Corson is one of the leagues best shot blockers and defensive checkers.
Names I didn't mention, but probably should have, were Jyrki Lumme and Robert Reichel. Why I didn't? Because they are weak and over paid, especially Reichel's contract....

PLAYER NEWS
Fredrik Sjostrom, LW/RW
2010/09/02: Fredrik Sjostrom might be available at the start of training camp after undergoing a shoulder operation this off-season. He is reportedly ahead of schedule in his recovery, but Toronto GM Brian Burke said the team would not rush him back before he is ready. We'll keep you posted on his status, but he has no fantasy value. (Source: Ottawa Sun)
Christian Hanson, RW/C
2010/08/31: The Toronto Maple Leafs have agreed to terms with restricted free agent Christian Hanson. Hanson scored two goals and registered five assists in 31 games last season. He should battle for a spot on Toronto's opening day roster. (Source: Sportsnet.ca)
Clarke MacArthur, LW
2010/08/30: Leafs GM Brian Burke expects Clarke MacArthur to spend a significant amount of time on one of Toronto's top two lines. MacArthur inked a one-year/$1.1 million deal with the Maple Leafs after Atlanta walked away from an arbitrator awarded one-year/$2.4 million deal. He scored 16 goals and 35 points in 81 games last season, but he still has some offensive upside. If he spends the majority of the season serving as a top-six forward, we think he can score 20-25 goals and 40-50 points. (Source: Toronto Star)
Clarke MacArthur, LW
2010/08/28: The Toronto Maple Leafs have signed forward Clarke MacArthur to a one-year deal. The contract is worth $1.1 million. Last season MacArthur scored 16 goals and 19 assists in 81 games (split between Buffalo and Atlanta). He will contend for a top-six forward spot withe Maple Leafs. He will be valuable in fantasy pools if he can secure a spot on the Leafs' power play. (Source: TSN.ca)
Matt Lashoff, D
2010/08/27: Matt Lashoff will join a crowded blueline in Toronto this season after being dealt to the Maple Leafs on Friday for minor-leaguers Alex Berry and Stefano Giliati. He played the majority of last season with the Tampa's AHL affiliate in Norfolk, where he posted eight goals, 24 points and 105 penalty minutes in 68 games. Lashoff will likely begin the 2010-11 campaign in the minors with the Toronto Marlies. (Source: TSN.ca)
Jonas Gustavsson, G
2010/08/21: Goalie Jonas Gustavsson is doing whatever he can to avoid the dreaded "sophomore jinx". "The second season can be dangerous because not everything is new and exciting in the same way it was (when you are a rookie)," Gustavsson said. "You sometimes have to fight a bit more to find that same energy." The Monster should be more relaxed this year, understanding exactly how North American hockey works. He could be a sleeper pick in fantasy if he can re-gain his Pre-NHL, European form. (Source: Toronto Sun)
Tomas Kaberle, D
2010/08/20: The father of Maple Leafs' defenseman Tomas Kaberle believes his son will be traded during the 2010-11 season. "I think that during the course of the year he will be traded to another club," said Frantisek Kaberle Sr. "There is only one chance for Toronto to get something back in return for Tomas now. In my opinion, I can't see Tomas entering a new contract with the Toronto. Not if Ron Wilson continues to be employed there ... I cannot imagine how he will get along with coach Wilson, who relies primarily on aggression and stress. That's not Tomas, he's a technical type of defender." If Kaberle does end up being moved then he will have to go to Toronto GM Brian Burke himself with a list of teams because Burke has been steadfast in his claim that he will not ask the offensive rearguard to waive his no-trade clause. Look for stories like this to arise frequently throughout the year. (Source: Calgary Sun)
Tomas Kaberle, D
2010/08/16: The Toronto Maple Leafs were unable to find a trading partner for Tomas Kaberle prior to his no trade clause taking effect again. "While a number of clubs made offers to trade for Tomas, none of them reflected Tomas's value to our team," said GM Brian Burke in a statement. "I understand a period like this is stressful to the player, and we are pleased that there is a resolution, and we can all continue to prepare for the coming season." If the Leafs want to move Kaberle at some point during the 2010-11 campaign they will need his approval. He has one year left on his current deal with Toronto and could end up walking away as an unrestricted free agent next summer. (Source: TSN.ca)
Tomas Kaberle, D
2010/08/15: Toronto GM Brian Burke believes that New Jersey and Los Angeles could both have been potential landing spots for Tomas Kaberle if not for the Ilya Kovalchuk contract situation. Burke said "I think both teams that were involved - and I'm not going to say that they are interested or were interested or would be - but I suspect that both teams involved in the Kovalchuk situation would have been more involved in this. The window to trade Kaberle is closing so Burke will need some eleventh hour magic if he's going to deal the defender before midnight on Sunday. (Source: The Bergen Record)
Tomas Kaberle, D
2010/08/13: Toronto GM Brian Burke is still waiting for an offer to jump on in the ongoing Tomas Kaberle trade talk. "It's too early to say. I know it sounds crazy because the deadline is midnight on Sunday, but the simple fact is we haven't received an offer yet (worth acting on)," said Burke while on Toronto radio station the FAN 590. "We're not going to see everybody's best cards until the last couple of days anyhow, so I'm not surprised we don't have anything that we would take yet, so we'll see what happens." We'll keep you posted, but expect Burke to pull the trigger close to the deadline when he believes the potential offers will improve. (Source: TSN.ca)

I think all those players you mentioned would and could be traded...except Bryan. So he's not putting the offensive numbers up he did last year, but I think he is still an important part of the Leafs Roster! Especially come playoff time.
I will HATE Quinn if he trades Bryan...
Hoglund and Reichel are on a point streak right now, which may up their value...unlikely, but who knows!
As for Lumme...can't we just trade him for a bag of pucks or some new sticks...because they would be more useful then him! ACK!

Hoglund::: not a bad 3rd line guy, but worth another 3rd line player.
McCabe::: don't forget he was a player on waivers. He is still young, come playoff time he can get his toughness going again. Probably a March deadline victim, but i'd still hold on to him.
Pilar::: not sure who would really want him. Don't get me wrong, he is good, but trade value is not much at all.

McCaulley, yeah he would be tradeable(Low Salary, good leadership, great Defensive centre, Great PK man).. I think it would be in McCaulleys best interest to go to another weaker team so he gets the oppurtunity and ice time he needs. He may evolve for someone else, not in T.O... He is a good guy though...
Green, I wouldnt trade him...
Hoglund, I would trade him but he is likley not to get much in return unless packaged with someone else.. By the way, he is not paid that much, only a million a year I think, hey maybe Boston will take him like rumored before..
Your probably right with Pilar, he could be usefull to another team, he provides offence, but that is not what Toronto needs right now and they have others in Coliacovo, White, Bell who can fill that role while playing defence too... Pilar also has a bit of an attitude I find...
Corson probably WONT be traded, he is a guy come playoff time you want. Same with Tucker, and they pretty much go together.. I think that Corson rumor was exactyly that, A RUMOR!
McCabe is a guy who could possibly challenge for the Norris trophy in UPCOMMING YEARS, he is a bit borderline.. I dont know if I would trade him, I guess it depends on what you get in return.. He is a restricted free agent at the end of the year by the way..
Lumme wont be back next year I dont think, he is FA...
Reichel it seems we are stuck with:(:(:(
Another guy is Berg, I dont know what his value is on the market???

The key thing to think about here is that none of these guys are going to fetch more than equal value...meaning none of them, given their positions, salaries, etc...even in a multi-player deal, are not going to fetch a superstar in return. The two biggest names other GM's would look at here are probably Green and McCabe, neither of whom I don't think Toronto would be smart to trade right now. They both fit their respective roles well enough not to warrant bringing another guy in that would possibly upset the chemistry on the team. They'll stick with what they have til March probably, then see what guys like McCabe, Hoglund, and maybe Green can bring in...but then again, this is the NHL, and anything can happen....

Only player I would keep out of all those that are rumored out of toronto is Hoglund and there gunna keep corson anyway since we can't trade him. Don't worry people, this is his last year. I hope Quinn doesn't re-sign him. I liked the old corson, the 1 that was a pain in the keester to play against, and the one who scored, was gritty, body-checked, energy player, and the one who would quit talkin' to his opponents attemting to threatin' them.
A threat to me is what Tucker did last play-offs, he went right up to Peca's face and threatened him, Peca thought he was joking, and I'm sure you know the rest.
Green has got to go, even though he is very gritty, and is a scorer come play-off time. Face-off winner? ha, this guy gets kicked out practically 50% of the face-offs he takes.
Pilar could easily be packaged with someone.
McCauley, I can't see anyone interested in him right now.
P.S. I want to hear some trade proposals from you leaf fans out there, I can't think of anything now cuz i'm running out of time and i got to go, catch up wif yah later, see yah.

hoglund doesnt get any of the minimal credit he deserves. i mean hes not huge. but he does have 6 goals and 11 assists this season, and is a plus 4.. playing on our third and fourth lines. he'd be worth more to toronto then they would ever get in return for him because of his piss poor reputation. his defensive play has improved immensly to, and any offensive chances hes had he had to create himself.
mccauleys crap. ive said it since the playoffs. trade him while he has any value.. get a third rounder for him they did for korolev. good god. how long are we waiting for him to develop?.. hes not going to.. and its been known for years. forget the defensive play yada yada.. hes garbage.
mccabe has a shitty follow up season and leafs fans pull a typical turn on him little episode. ive been hearing it for awhile now. even if hes not putting out the same offensive production he was last year... he's still playing a rough stay at home defensive style that is desperately needed in the leafs d. svehla hasnt even tried to hit anyone since he got caked by roenick.. except that hit on langenbrunner from behind fiasco. not to mention he hasnt had a point in months. the leafs need mccabe. and hes still relatively young. people forget he only had like 3 goals by mid december last year. and his icetime is waaaay down from last year, not to mention his time on the powerplay.
pilar has to much potential. the leafs are gonna need him someday, and the way they bury all their other prospects on the rock. he'd be worth more to t.o then what they would get for him to.
green is definitly a valuable 4th liner. nothing more. can never have enough grit in the playoffs either.
corson?.. blah. useless. cant even fight anymore.
lumme definitly needs to go. i think id rather have manson. i mean the guy plays like he thinks hes god. and he aaaalways has this smug dont ***** with me or i'll have you raped by a pack of mad goats look on his face. hes always getting caught trying to pinch.. throws the puck away more than cross.. and man what a girl. the day lumme throws a hit is the day cross wins the norris. kidd was a big mistake to.. when you got guys like tellqvist and centomo who are gonna be huge someday and could be gettin valuable time with eddie right now. reichel id be ok with if he didnt make so much god damned money. but quinn needs to pull his thumb out of his ass and do something. god hes a putz

Hoglund- wash up along time ago, needs superstar centreman , having said that, my grandmother can score goals with a superstar centre and she is DEAD
McCabe very over rated 3-4 d-man at best, takes costly penalties
Pilar- who? minor leaguer
Green, has heart but easily replaceable with a up and comer who wants to make the big league
Corson, slow, cement hands, whiner, and over the hill. maybe a contender who wants to shore up before a playoff runwill take him
Leaf fans wake up, if it was not for Balfour you wouldnt be in the RACE, just where all the Leaf Fans that were critical about the Leafs signing him? where are the Leaf fans that said the Habs only have Theo? you only have Eddy and Sundin, Period.

There have been only two teams who made big mid-season trades who went on to win the cup. When Roy was gifted to Colorado that sealed the cup, but that was a once in a lifetime deal. The Rangers made massive roster moves during their cup win. They gave away half the team to acquire the veterans they wanted for their playoff drive. Since those moves, the team has never been the same.
Mid season trades do not get anyone a cup and if they do, the price you pay ruins your team for many years. The best thing the Leafs can do is to try to keep their players rested and injury free.

Despite all the usual Leaf bashers around here. (it gets nauseating) the Leafs will make a major deal before the trade deadline.
They DO have players other teams want, maybe not a lot, but some anyway.
They also have a number of good young prospects now and draft picks.
They also have some character guys that winning teams traditionally pick-up for a playoff run.
You need character in the playoffs. Ask the Flyers what it is like to play without it? Look at the Devils and the Sabres over the last few years and their playoff success. Then look at Ottawa every year.
They also have the most important thing... MONEY!
It is all about playoffs.

If I am another general manager around the league, I am looking at the list of players you have there and am not really impressed.
If you want an impact player, i.e. Kovalev, you are going to have to pony up with more than third line role player guys and 6th and 7th defensemen, and players who salary is not matching their production.
So if you want an impact player, you are going to have to offer up more than the names in this post.
