I will refer directly to an "article" I just read. Quote: "a new sheriff on HTR.....the law... issue strikes"..
In my opinion, this is a big steaming pile of treacle. We went through a whole lot of unnecessary hoopla this summer with "factions" and "turf wars". This is a completely transparent way to start it up again.
Do you want someone who can't even use proper syntax trying to censor your commentary?
Since there has always been (and always will be) the problem of clueless yo-yo's who want to use this site to practice their "name calling", or show off the new "dirty words" they heard on their Eminem CD, I propose that HTR create a cordoned-off space where these comments can be moved to as soon as they are found. Than, those of us who are so inclined to verbally "joust" a little can deal with the offender in the appropriate manner.
It does no good to just "erase" the comments or "ban" the offender - they just come back anyway. Remember, after a nuclear blast, there will still be *****roaches.
The fact of the matter is, we should be concentrating on hockey, and getting every measure of enjoyment from it we possibly can, since after this season there's a good possibility it may never be the same again.
What we should not be concentrating on is "who gets to do what to who".
Personally, I'm tired of this nonsense, especially since no one is ever allowed to express a dissenting opinion in their articles except this "expert". It smacks of favoritism. Trust me, I am not alone in this opinion.

The reason why i posted was to see if certain people actually wanted a change in the stfaf or not, glad the big majority was no change. Also, i posted it to show everyone that i didn't know how to suspend, delete, ban users ever since the new coding and updating took place. Then Trademan explained it to me, so very simple, and it was good to let people know that dirt would be swept away.
D-Strate, i don't think it's all that necessary to do that, regarding your idea on what to do with disfunctional users, however.......i am very curious to see what the HTR family would say.
Your post definitely got posted without need of blackmail. We are not evil people who ignore articles!
I get to read a lot of them, sometimes too many, and it's not easy posting the right ones, which ones to put on hold, and which ones to delete.
No one is a favorite of the staff, absolutely no one. There are the ones we like and the ones we dislike, but no favorites.

I am with you D-Strate. Segregate the muck-rakers and let those who wish to do verbal battle with them go to that section.
Let's all make an effort (myself included - ahem) to not let the pain in the asses get under our collective skin and irritate us. It brings the site down and serves no purpose. It only makes us all look like fools.
If you have a differing opinion then state it maturely and back it up with a little fact. You will get much more respect from everyone else around here.
I, for one, have turned over a new (this hurts to say) Leaf.

I for one spent so much time trying to upgrade this site as a long-time member, I certainly won't let any kid try to ruin it now that I became an admin.
Members with hockey knowledge here should unite and fight those lil pricks to keep this site like we all love it. |

This is a great website, we can all agree on that. We keep coming back here because we enjoy witty banter, argue over rumors, hate the Leafs, Rangers, and Flyers, love the Leafs, Rangers, and Flyers, and (most importantly), we all love to see our own thoughts in print on the internet.
Only in America. And Canada.
While there may be scads upon scads of members to this website, there are some of us who have been around a lot longer than others. I can remember, almost 4 years ago, when I had my first little "discussion" with mikster over the speed of Dan Blackburn's glove hand.
That being said, there are no ranks when it comes to us.
There are no "senior" members. There are no "sheriffs." No one member "out-ranks" another, nor does any one member deserve any special treatment over another.
All of us owe a great deal to Trademan, Puckboy, DG, Mikster, and now, Lint07 for the work they have put in on our behalf. How often do we stop to think about that?
I think about it every time I see the phrase "shut da ***** up" on my screen.
This website does not need a self-aggrandizing, chest-thumping, flag-waving, wannabe know-it-all trying to usurp "power" from those who work extremely hard at keeping this site the great thing that it has become.
I don't believe for a second that the individual I refer to has the best interests of this webiste in mind. I have seen too much to the contrary ever since I was made aware of his presence.
Don't believe the hype - it's a sequel.
You want to be the silverback? You want to make others do your bidding? You want to be the one to prevent others from voicing thier opinions?
Then go out, get a job, work your way up to management. THEN you can tell other people what to do.
In the meantime, leave this website alone. We are all better off without you. |
