"Owner's Pull It Off...
Ok, I heard this over a week ago but did not believe it until I saw the deal today for my own eyes. ESPN will keep the NHL for another year, but there are clauses in this contract that must be in place before ESPN will fully sign. Anyways this comes as a shock and you wonder if the NHL has plans going on behind the scenes that would make ESPN change their mind about this.
The preassure is now almost all on he players as the owner's are maintaining their television profits. If they can only get their sponsorship back on their side then the players will be in a deep hole as they then have no leverage to get a deal done with the owner's. This should be interesting to see how the players respond to this in the following meetings."
I completely agree with this guy.The pressure is now back on the players as there only leverage is now gone. Good move by the owners!

Re: ESPN sticks with NHL (Score: 1) by 19Yzerman on Friday, March 11 (User Info | Send a Message) | The Tv net works and the advertisment sponcers are a much need factor for both the NHL and the NHLPA equaly. I don't how this adds or removes any pressure on either of them. Unless they are thinking about uncancelling the canelled season.
Soon the Owners will have to sell those season tickets for the 2005-2006 season and buyers will want to know that the CBA has been resolved or not which puts pressure on the owners to establish a new CBA which the players have no time frame to adhere to with no services needed till sept. Owners season ticket sales go on in the spring. |

Re: ESPN sticks with NHL (Score: 1) by mikster on Friday, March 11 (User Info | Send a Message) | I'd be very conservative with the blogspot people.
So, i'll wait for it to be confirmed by ESPN itself.
If it is true....then i am not happy since i cannot stand the ESPN crew. But, this is a plus for the owners, Bettman, and the NHL because it goes against what Goodenow is thinking......that the owners would cave in if ESPN, sponsors, and etc.... all drop out. |

we'll see how it develops... |

Re: ESPN sticks with NHL (Score: 1) by rojoke on Saturday, March 12 (User Info | Send a Message) | | So on those rare nights between NBA double-headers and the World Series of Poker, ESPN will show a Wings/Avs game. Whoopee!!! The NHL would probably be better off if they went to SpikeTV or something. When ESPN ditched their NHL prom date when the prom queen ditched hers, it told them and American hockey fans just where on the priority list they stand - way, way down. |

Probably not, if anything you'll be lucky to get a game a week in lieu of more poker tournaments. Of course we need a season first. |
