rogaut1 writes "Mario Tremblay has requested that the Wild release him so that he can join Guy Carbonneau as an assistant coach with the Montreal Canadiens.
Also the article mentions that Montreal and Tampa Bay are talking about a major trade for the last few days according to the Boston Globe. No names have been mentionned but the likes of Vincent LeCavalier and Martin St. Louis come to mind.
Carey Price, G
2010/09/01: Carey Price and the Montreal Canadiens are continuing to progress in their contract negotiations, according to Price's agent Gerry Johannson. However, he added that there is still plenty of work to do before anything concrete can be finalized. Reports that the RFA netminder would go on "strike" if he does not receive a deal that pays him $3 million a year appear to be a bit premature, but stay tuned for updates. (Source: TSN.ca)
Carey Price, G
2010/08/31: CBC-Montreal reporter Michel Godbout says that a "very very reliable source" has told him that restricted free agent Carey Price will "strike" if Montreal doesn't give him a contract worth $3 million per season. Take this story with more than just a grain of salt, but it's worth noting that former Montreal goaltender Jaroslav Halak's deal with St. Louis will pay him an average of $3.75 million per season over the next four years. Of course, despite Price's upside, Halak does have the better track record. We'll keep you posted. (Source: Montreal Gazette)
Andrei Markov, D
2010/08/30: Andrei Markov (knee surgery) has begun skating by himself, according to RDS. He was hurt during Montreal's second-round playoff series against the Pittsburgh Penguins. Markov required surgery to repair a torn ACL in his right knee and he is projected to miss the first six to eight weeks of the regular-season. (Source: Habs Inside/Out)
Jarred Tinordi, D
2010/08/17: Montreal prospect Jarred Tinordi was introduced to the London media on Monday. The Canadiens' first-round pick (22nd overall) in the 2010 draft chose to suit up for the Ontario Hockey League's London Knights over playing NCAA puck with Notre Dame this coming season. "You look at a program and an organization like the London Knights and the way they develop players," said Tinordi. "It's a great city with great fans and it's a great place for me to develop as a player and get to the next level." (Source: Sun Media)
Karri Ramo, G
2010/08/16: The Montreal Canadiens have acquired the rights to goaltender Karri Ramo from Tampa Bay in a trade that sends minor-league goaltender Cedrick Desjardins to the Lightning. Ramo has decided to stay in Russia for the upcoming 2010-11 campaign after posting a 21-17-4 record with 2.11 GAA and a .913 save percentage with Avangard Omsk in the KHL last season. Carey Price, G
2010/08/04: Carey Price's agent, Gerry Johannson, thinks that his client will sign with the Montreal Canadiens by the end of August or early September. Price is currently a restricted free agent. Johannson said that the Montreal Canadiens and him "are not necessarily close, but it's not that we're not close in a bad way. We're having good conversations and we both are commited to getting things done." Johannson also said that Price is seeking a short-term deal. We'll keep you posted. (Source: Montreal Gazette)

Lecavalier?...the habs have nothing to offer tampa 4 a player of lecavalier's talent....nothing. St. Louis makes sense though,...maybe he'll regain some of his glory from a 2 years ago,...he's got decent speed.

I'll bet that the trade goes like this.....
To Montreal : Martin St. Louis & Darryl Sydor
To Tampa Bay : David Aebisher, Michael Ryder, and a late draft pick.
It may seem a little uneven to some people, but the cash Tampa will save will keep them under the cap, and will give them a solid number one goaltender.

If Gainey is willing to trade players like Higgins, Komisarek, Plekanek or even Markov and include Aebisher in a deal, I could see Levacalier moving. A deal like Higgins or Markov, Aebisher (if he agrees to sign a contract with TB that satisfies TB) and a high draft pick(1st let's say), TB saves tons of cash, they get good netminder and the Habs tops prospect to make it last year (Higgins) or the Ahbs top D-man and also include let's say their first round pick, TB could be tempted, it all depends on how bad Gainey wants this deal to happen and how bad the situation is with TB defensive core and their salary cap problem.
To say the Habs have nothing to deal is plain stupid, they have lots of good prospect (they were rated the 4th NHL team in prospects the last 2 years), but I am sure Gainey wants to built with them, not trade them all away for one guy.
As usual, most trade rumours never become reality, I wouldn't bet on this one happening. I would be very surprise to see St-Louis coming to MTL, unless Gainey is sure he'll sign Arnott this summer, then this could be interesting.

I would have preferred Muller over Tremblay. Maybe, the Habs will get both.
A major trade? The Habs have acquired only one all-star player via trade over the past decade, and that was a playoff rental for a draft pick.
In other words, don't hold your breath. Then again, if the Habs can rebuild the team with some guys with Cup experience, boy would that help.
Remember when everyone wanted ex-Habs b/c they all had Cup wins. Times have changed.

I beleive Tremblay was a good coach with a good team, however the problem wasn't the coach at that time, it all came down to bad trades and picks.
He was blamed for the patrick roy trade but he shouldn't. The coach can't be blamed for a bad trade, the only thing we can blame him for is that his job was to get the best out of his players and he got that from them IMO except for patrick.

I can't say where I got this inside info from, but Muller will be signing with Montreal. He was offered jobs with Montreal & Dalla, and is deciding to join the Habs. As for Tremblay, I havn't heard anything suggesting that he is joining Montreal. I think this would be Gainey's first BAD move. He had a run here and blew it. I really don't think he's a good coach and last time around, the players (especially Roy) had no respect for him. Carbo needs to lead the way here. Muller and Jarvis have MUCH more respect fromt he players than Mario Tremblay.
As for big trades: I honestly think Gainey's been busy on the phone and several things will happen. Abey will be traded. Huet will be re-signed (2-3 year contract). They will look to add a top flight 1rst or second lind centerman or top line winger. The names being thrown around are Arnott, St.Louis & Lecavalier. Apparently, Gainey offered TB Theodore for Lecavalier way back when. TB declined and offered St.Louis. Gainey declined. So the story now is A) does Tampa want Abeisher? Does Gainey even want St.Lousi and his 5.25 Million? Would Gainey rather use the money and sign Arnott as an UFA? Or will none of these 3 names come to montreal and Gainey looks into signing someone who hasn't even been mentioned yet? I've been saying all along that I can see him dealing with Vancouver for Bertuzi or Naslund (yes, everyone says I'm nuts for thinking that, but crazier things have happened). Trade bait is Ribeiro, Zednik, Abey, Souray, draft picks & young prospects which montreal has many right now.
If they trade for St.Louis or naslund & sign a guy like Arnott, their roster will look something like this
Looks VERY solid to me. They will still be under the cap, as to make trade deadline deals if needed. They will still have the likes of Perezhogan, Kostitsyn who can come up and play on a 2nd or 3rd line. This would be a noce mix of leadership, skill, speed, size, strength. Special teams will be even better than last year. And Huet will carry this defensively coached team to a final 4 next year.
