Do You Beleive in the Pens?
Alright So it is true the Pens could still not make the Playoffs, but does anyone really think that? in their last Six games they are 5-0-1 beating teams such as Dallas and Toronto two teams that are supposed to be better than the Pens. I think it is time that People look at the Penguins and notice they are once again a team to be reckoned with. The talent that is on this team is sick, two months ago even i myself was complaining they needed more scoring lines and help on the wings but looking at the past month this is without a doubt the best Month the Pens have played in about 5 years. Therrien doesnt get enough credit for what he has done to bring the Pens where they are now. He is the biggest reason why they are here in the Playoff run for the first time in 5 years. so what do you all think do you think this is just a fluke for this year or are they truly becoming a team?
by: maniachippoToronto Trade Speculation OK, this is my first article so go easy,
As we all know, toronto needs to do to things 1. Dump salary and 2. get sundin a scoring winger, here is the trade that comes first to my mind
To Edmonton: McCabe (yes i know about the no trade clause) and tucker
To Toronto: Tjarnqvist and Lupul
Tell me what you think

Re: A Collection of Submissions (Score: 1) by muckies on Sunday, January 28 (User Info | Send a Message) | 1. Apparently the Pens and the GM belive they have a legit sh0t at the Stanley Cup this season, and they have a first round draft choice that they could trade seeing as they have enough prospects to build a Dynasty with.
the Pens will be buyers at the deadline, they could go out and try to get Adrien Aucoin, Brad Stuart or Eric Brewer to get that Defence solid.
2. Who cares about Toronto, whatever they do won't be good enough to make the team a Cup contender for at least 4 years.
3. Out of all 8 playoff teams, I'd say Atlanta is the least scary of those teams and does not have enough depth or goaltending to get the job done when the games get tight. They have some game breakers, but the teams in the East that are playoff ready today are NJ, Buffallo, Carolina, Ottawa.
The West will be a nightmare to win the Cup, even getting through the 2nd round will be an absolute nightmare. I'd say Calgary Detroit, Anaheim are the playoff ready teams, and Edmonton is they make it. |

Re: A Collection of Submissions (Score: 1) by J-Man2020 on Sunday, January 28 (User Info | Send a Message) | I do not believe in the Penguins, I will be suprised if they make the playoffs. There is no way Recchi is going to keep up the way he has been playing in the last week or so. They have a horrible defence and an inconsistent goaltender. There are 2 teams better than them in the Atlantic Division, the Devils and the Rangers. The Rangers have a very easy schedule and they will make a move for a defenceman and a number 2 center, probably forsberg. The Rangers will then have an offence that is just as good as Pittsburg's offence. The Rangers have a better defence already and will be even more better after they acquire a top 4 defenceman. Lundqvist is clearly better than Fleury and it is not even close. Lundqvist is a top 10 goaltender in the league and maybe a top 5 goaltender in the last month. If it wasnt for the beginning of the season and the shaky defence then Lundqvist would be in the top 7 or 8 in every category.

Re: A Collection of Submissions (Score: 1) by OldGoalie on Sunday, January 28 (User Info | Send a Message) | Do I believe in the Pens? Welllllll...and this is spoken as a die hard Pens fan...the biggest issue with the team is consistency. Say what you want about a lack of balanced scoring...an iffy defense...an untested goalie...etc., etc. I think the stat I heard the other day was that every winning streak the Pens have had this year (and they counted any period of more than one win in a row) has been followed by a losing streak of at least 3 games...and that does not bode well for making the playoffs, particularly in a highly contested year.
Now...that having been said...they do show flashes. They've beaten Dallas...Buffalo...Atlanta...New Jersey...they even hung tough with Anaheim in the one game they played. They clearly can compete with the upper echelon teams. They also seem to be improving as time passes this season (which is to be expected in a younger team). The last couple of seasons, they've played far, far better in the second half than they did in the first...if that trend continues and they find some consistency, they have a very good chance of getting in.
If that happens, I think that it would be a monumental mistake for the higher seeded teams to hope they get to play Pittsburgh...they're not deep enough or experienced enough or tough enough defensively to be a Cup contender as currently constituted, but they could be a nasty surprise for a round or maybe even two. In that way, they remind me a little of the 90-91 Pens...a bubble team with lots of questions, but also with lots of talent.
In 90-91, of course, the makeup of the team was changed radically (and for the better) at the trading deadline through the addition of veterans who addressed the team's shortcomings basically overnight. There's no indication that Shero is going to do something similar this year (even if the opportunity presents itself). He has said that he would be comfortable with letting the younger players continue to develop together, rather than taking one or more of them out of the lineup for a rental player or two.
But...food for thought...the Pens may have a HUGE motivation to make a playoff run this year in particular. Pittsburgh has traditionally supported them very well and very publicly in years past when they made the playoffs, and that might very well give them some extra leverage in the arena negotiations (assuming they're not already settled before the trading deadline). It therefore would not surprise me at all to see them be more aggressive as th deadline approaches than we might have expected a few weeks ago. |

Re: A Collection of Submissions (Score: 1) by quick_stick on Monday, January 29 (User Info | Send a Message) | On your Toronto trade... there's no way McCabe would waive his No Movement Clause to go to Edmonton, or anyway Edmonton would take his stupid contract. The Islanders would be a possible destination for him, as he was interested in signing with them and they don't see any problem (obviously) with crazy contracts. Other than that, the only team to take McCabe would have to be a (desparate) team that feels they're only an offensive D-man away from being a legit cup contender. On your standings, I have a hard time imagining that Boston will finish as high as 9th... both their team play and goaltending have been very inconsistent all year. The Pens lack any solid defense... if they make the playoffs, I have a hard time imagining them going far. Any team they play against will zero in on Crosby hard. The playoffs are a different game and Crosby (who is great, for sure) will have a hard time carrying the team by himself. If the Pens make a move or two to stablize their defense, they should be a very dangerous team the next few years as their younger players (namely, Stall & Malkin) mature and gain experience, but I don't think that will be this year.
