Hockey is the game canadians can't seem to get enough of. It's like an addiction similar to playing the spin palace casino games. But most importantly it is down to the loyalty as a fellow canadian to follow the country's number 1 sport!

Tie Breaking Your Way Into The Playoffs

Puck Sight blankmuckies writes "The East is so close, 2 points separates the 7-11 spots, you have to figure that at the end of the regular season, at least 2 teams will be tied in points for the final playoff spots.....

Tie breaking goes on wins, all the 7-11 spot teams have either 34 or 35 wins, then it goes to intermatch play, THEN TO GOAL DIFFERENTIAL.

Here's how it breaks down

Differential
7. NY Islanders + 9 Goals 209 for - 200 against
8. Carolina - 7 Goals 208 for - 215 against
9. Toronto - 8 Goals 219 for - 227 against
10 NY Rangers + 7 Goals 220 for - 193 against
11. Montreal - 15 Goals 208 for - 223 against

This means in a tie break, the Islanders and Rangers would be in the playoffs due to their psoitive goal differential, Montreal has the least chance with Carolina and Toronto about in the middle.

It looks pretty likely a tie-break like this is going to happen with the race so tight, your team may have enough points to get into the playoffs, but won't make it because they gave up to many goals."

Actually,

it is:

1) wins
2) points obtained in the SEASON-SERIES between the two teams being tied.
3) THEN goal differential

(http://www.nhl.com/nhl/app?service=page&page=StandingsPage&type=CON) on the site it has 4 tiebreakers starting with the fewer number of games played but obviously by the end of the season, everyone has played 82 games. So, if there is a tie in points, it goes Wins, then season-series, then goal differential.

unlikely it will come to that, it will come down to wins, so an OT loss is more significant now
