Hockey is the game canadians can't seem to get enough of. It's like an addiction similar to playing the spin palace casino games. But most importantly it is down to the loyalty as a fellow canadian to follow the country's number 1 sport!

 First round picks...

Puck Sight blankchanman writes "Heres the first round matchups for the 07 playoffs, and my predictions on who makes it out.

EAST

#1 Buffalo vs. #8 NYI Buffalo in 5

#2 NJ vs.#7Tampa Bay NJ in 5

#3 Atlanta vs #6NYR NYR in 6

#4 Ottawa vs. #5Pittsburgh Ottawa in 7

Ottawa/Pittsburgh...tough to judge. I think defence will win this battle, and that goes to Ottawa.

Neither Atlanta or the Rangers will have a long life in these playoffs, but I see Atlanta as still lacking in chemistry and depth. THe Rangers have a step on them, in that department, no to mention a pretty hot goalie in Lundquist

Tampa is horrible in Goal....in NJ can squeeze out St. Louis and Lecalvier, this will be a short series.

The Ilses have nothing on Buffalo. They are mediocre at best, and buffalo is is the best. 5 games max.

WEST

#1 Detroit vs. #8 Calgary Detroit in 7
#2 Anaheim vs. #7 Minnisota Anaheim in 4
#3 Vancouver vs. #6 Dallas Dallas in 6
#4 Nashville vs. #5 San Jose San Jose in 6

The Vancouver/dallas series I find hard to judge, but I beleive Dallas to have more depth and scoring ability, and Turco, if hot, can hold his own against Luongo.

Anaheim will play their two horses on the back, holding Gaborik and Demitra back. If they can take away that offence and look to penitrate the Wilds tight checking and Dfence, they can take this series easily.

Nashville/ San Jose....It just feels life the Sharks time. They have one of the most potent offenses, and 2 solid goaltenders, debatably equal to Mason & Vokoun in net. I just see Joe & Co. taking the stage and putting away the preds.

Detroit had just better win. Thats the bottom line.

 Buffalo vs NYI

ill give new york some credit here there a hard working team and built in a similar way to buffalo they wont hold them off though buffalo in 6

New Jersey vs Tampa Bay

New jersey is by far the favorite to come out of the east tampa will be lucky to get more than a game off them New Jersey in 5

Atlanta vs NYR

Atlanta has never been and New York has no experience im gonna call this one Atlanta in 7

Ottawa vs Pittsburgh

Its simple Crosby is the best player in the league but these teams are so similar Pittsburgh in 7

WEST

Detroit vs Calgary

Calgary cant win on the road and there playing in The toughest road house in the league Detroit in 6

Anaheim vs Minnesota

Wow bound to be a boring series Minnesota has played well lately though im gonna pick an upset here Minnesota in 7

Vancouver vs Dallas

Luongo is bound to feed off the playoffs these guys are the New Jersey of the west and that isnt a bad thing at all Vancouver in 5

Nashville vs San Jose

This is going to be a good run for Nashville... a tough match though in the first round Nashville in 6

East

#1 Buffalo vs. #8 NYI (Buffalo in 4)
Buffalo has a too much firepower for the Islanders to keep up.

#2 New Jersey vs. #7 Tampa Bay (Tampa Bay in 6)
This is my upset for the east.  Yes, the Devils have Brodeur and Tampa Bay has no goaltending.  The Devils have no scoring though and Tampa Bay has two of the top 5 goal scorers in the league.  Tampa Bay gave New Jersey many problems during the regular season.

#3 Atlanta vs. #3 NYR (NYR in 6)
This is not really an upset because Atlanta only finished 3 points ahead of the Rangers.  These teams play the same style with alot of speed.  Rangers play very well on the road and Atlanta has a lack of experience in the playoffs.  Lundqvist is the hottest goalie in hockey right now and I could see the Rangers going far in the playoffs if he keeps staying that way.

#4 Ottawa vs. #5 Pittsburg (Ottawa in 7)
You can say all you want about Sidney Crosby, Jordan Staal, and Evegeni Malkin.  They are very good young players but they have no experience in the playoffs when it really matters.  Ottawa has alot of experience in the playoffs and have an edge in goaltending.  This will be a very high scoring series and a great series, but Ottawa will pull this one out.

West

#1 Detroit vs. #8 Calgary (Detroit in 5)
Detroit has not been great in the playoffs in the last few years, especially last year.  The key to this series is that Detroit is a very hot team going into the playoffs and Calgary barely sneaked in.  Hasek will be great in this series.

#2 Anaheim vs. #7 Minnesota (Minnesota in 6)
This is my upset for the west.  Minnesota is a very good defensive team and Anaheim is great, but defense and goaltending win in the playoffs.  Right now Backstrom is playing better than Giguere.

#3 Vancouver vs. #6 Dallas (Vancouver in 5)
I could see this series being a blow out.  Luongo has been insane this year and he will keep that up in the playoffs.  Dallas will have a tough time scoring more than 2 goals a game.

#4 Nashville vs. #5 San Jose (Nashville in 7)
This will be another great series.  Nashville's addition of Peter Forsberg will help them in the playoffs.  I can see this series having at least 4 games that go into OT.  I think Forsberg will be the MVP of this series.

Here's how its going to go. #1 Buffalo vs. #8 Islanders--- Buffalo in 5 #2 NJ vs #7 Lightning--- NJ in 6. #3 Atl vs #6 Rangers--- Rangers in 6. #4 Ottowa vs #5 Pitt-- Pitt in 7 Islanders will win the first coming off a high from todays win over NJ, Buffalo will then shut them down and move on. The Bolts will give the Devils a fair fight, but Brodeur will shut them down eventually and take the series. The Rangers have plenty of veteran expeience on their top two lines, as well as some on defense and their back up goaltender. Pitts youth will be a real test for Ottawa, I think desire of this Pittsburgh team will over come the Sens. #1 Detroit vs #8 Calgary--- Detroit in 6 #2 Anaheim vs #7 Minnesota--- Anaheim in 7 #3 Vancouver vs #6 Dallas--- Vancouver in 7 #4 Nashville vs #5 San Jose--- San Jose in 7 Calgary will put up a tough fight, and may surprise, but I think Detroit is to good. Minnesota will be a very good Challenge for this ducks team. Whether Pronger and Neids will be able to shut down Gaborik and Demitra, or will they whither and let Minnesota steam roll right over them. Vancouver is just a very solid team, then again, so is Dallas. I dont know about this one. I have a feeling Vancouver will win in 7, but Dallas can win just as easy. Nashville vs San Jose is the same as Vancouver vs Dallas, its a very even matchup. The West is clearly a more evenly matched conference, and I feel most of these series will go at least 6 games, most 7 IMO.

posted this in another thread, but it seems more appropriate in this one.

My playoff Predictions:

East:

Buffalo Vs. NYI : Buffalo in 7
Ryan Smyth will have a good series and give the Islanders a chance, but the Sabres will overpower them in the end.

New Jersey Vs Tampa Bay : Devils in 6
First couple of games should be high scoring, but Brodeur will shut down Lecavalier and St Louis in the final games.

Atlanta Vs NY Rangers : Rangers in 5
Atlanta's lack of postseason experience will cost them.

Ottawa Vs Pittsburgh : Senators in 7
This will be the highest scoring series of them all. Goalies look out!

West:

Detroit Vs Calgary : Flames in 7
Detriot will falter again this year and Iginla will tear them up. Look for Jeff Friesen to become an unsung hero.

Anaheim Vs Minnesota : Ducks in 5 (maybe 4)
Ducks have far too much firepower for even the best defensive team in the league.

Vancouver Vs Dallas : Dallas in 6
Luongo will be good, but Turco will be better, will be the lowest socring series in this years Playoffs.

Sharks (yay!) vs. Nashville : Sharks in 6
Will be more energetic and higher scoring than last year's series, but the Sharks will still come out on top in the end.

Semifinals:

Buffalo vs NY Rangers: Buffalo in 5

New Jersey vs Ottawa : Ottawa in 6

Anaheim vs Calgary : Anaheim in 5

San Jose vs Dallas : Sharks in 5

after that, who knows!

Detriot had better win. They won't tho. Calgary in six. calgary is one of the worst road teams in the nhl, but they are the best home team. they need to steal one on the road, they will get all three at home. watch iggy dominate. a groin pull waiting to happen in net and the first playoffs since stevie y. they wont pull it thru.

give minnesota more credit than that. swept? no. six or seven games, and maybe even watch for the upset. they have the trap and they can pot a few.

a choker in turco, a virgin in luongo. give it to luongo. in seven

nashville is out to prove something. that will take it, unless joe wakes up and plays hard. he has not stepped up in the playoffs, and he needs to.

i have a few comments:

1. pit v ott will be the best first round matchup

2. whoever wins that series (i am a pens fan and wish they do) will likely lose in round two. just to strapped from round 1.

3. vancouver never showed in the playoffs because cloutier was their goalie. they'll do better with luongo.

4. tampa can beat jersey and will be the obvious upset pick. although, idrc who wins.

5. what does playoff experience mean? i thought it was still 60 minutes with 3 periods and the same rules. ok, it's "more desperate" but oh well, it's the same game. overtime is the only real difference. crusher (christensen) and koivu are in trouble.

6. flyers really did suck this year.

7. alfredsson might have experience, but he is mr. defense on the pp. pominville goal in game 7 of ot last year. yeah, bad times mr captain. and j staal scored in the regular season when he could have easily backchecked.

8. just enjoy the playoffs and quit fighting until your team wins. after all, these are merely opinions by everyone. they have their predictions just like you. some might be far fetched like the isles winning but who cares. just think to yourself: you are right.

Go Pens!

My predictions for the first round.

EAST

Buffalo over Islanders in 6.   I wish the Isles would win, but don't think they can.

NJ over TB in 6.  NJ is my favorite team, but you always need to respect your opponent.  TB is a scary team.

Atlanta over Rangers in 7.  This is going to be a really exciting series.

Pittsburgh over Ottawa in 7.  It could go either way, but I give the edge to Pittsburgh.

WEST

Calgary over Detroit in 7.  I don't really like either team, but I dislike Detroit far more.  Kipper will have to stand on his head.

Anaheim over Minnesota in 7.  I'll be rooting for the Wild, but the Ducks have an advantage in defense and goaltending.  Selanne is one of my favorite players, and its good to see him having an awesome season.

Vancouver over Dallas in 7.  Again, don't really like either team, but dislike Dallas far more.  We'll finally get to see if Luongo can hold his own in the playoffs.

Nashville over San Jose in 7.  The Pred D will have to come up really big against the Sharks' offense.  If anyone can help Nashville tip the scales, it will be guys like Forsberg and Arnott.
