Hockey is the game canadians can't seem to get enough of. It's like an addiction similar to playing the spin palace casino games. But most importantly it is down to the loyalty as a fellow canadian to follow the country's number 1 sport!

Canada-Russia Super Series: Game 2 Review

Team Canada blankHockey_Insider writes "From Ufa, Russia, here is a review of the entire game two of the Canada- Russia SUper Series:

First Period: As the two teams lineup for the puck drop of game two, you will notice that there are Canadian Referees in this game. Also when you look to the two nets, neither of the other two goalies from game 1 are in net. In net for Canada: LA Kings John Bernier. In net for the Russians: Inexperienced Sergei Bobrovsky ( which was a suprise). So the puck is droppedand Canada wins the face off, and they come out of the gates strong, putting good pressure on net. When Russia gets a brief rush, Bernier comes way out of the net and makes a save. He was already looking confident in the first period, which is a good sign. But Bobrovsky looked equally good when he made a tremendous save on Stefan Legein.
But Legein also gets a penalty as he smacked his stick against Bobrovsky's glove, to try and loosen the puck out. On the ensuing Power Play, Russia puts on some pressure, but can't find the net, thanks to some good PK from Canada. Then, finnaly, Ivan Vishnevsky sends a bullet at Bernier, but it's stopped, as Bernier cut down the angle. Then thanks to some great defensive play by Alzner, Sutter gets the puck and nearly scores our first goal of the game. Then some tensoins start to flare when Gilles just crunches Russia's Igor Zubov. But that wouldn't be the best chck of the game. Shortly after, while Russia was set up in Canada's zone, Alexei Cherepanov carries the puck untill, out of no where, Brandon Sutter flys at him, and sends him soaring off his feet into the air, as both players went thudding to the ice. This was the start of World War 3. Bernier makes some saves and Canada makes some good D-plays, and then Russia's frustration came trough when they finnaly recieved a penalty. But the Russians still pushed 1 man short, as they drew a 2 on 1 rush. But Drew Doughty made a great defensive play, and didn't let either Russian get the puck on net. Then, on a Canada drive, David Perron throws a pass down low for Turris, who then moves right, and then goes backhand and rips the puck into the left side of the net, over a spraling Bobrovski.
1-0.
From then on Chereponov seemed to be getting really angry, and played a more physical game. As was the story for every other Russian player now, as they realized that they were now in line for losing 2 games in a row to the rival Canadians.
End of 2nd Period.

2nd Period: Canada comes out of the gates strong...again. But 31 secounds in get called for too many men on the ice. Russia seemed to already be playing desperate hockey, but could not solve the walls of Bernier. Canada continues to play Canadian hockey: they're finishing their checks, and frustrating the opponent. Then Canada got the crowd on their feet booing, as Canada put the puck on net about 7 times in one rush.
Canada wanted to push their lead, as they relentlisly put rubber on net. Then Tavares nearly scores as he gets hauled down(no penalty). Canada is in total control so far of this game. Then Vancouver Canucks Ilya Kablukov starts spilling blood all over the place as Zac Boychuk hand a high stick out, but with no call because the ref's didnt see it. Then, when it looked like Russia was on the verge of scoring a goal, Sutter lays out Maxim Chudinov, in a scary good check, that thundered the whole rink. Then with that,, cue the aggresion, as theres gloved punches thrown, shoving in a big mele, with a pile of players..and then a pile of penalties. Now there is a thick mist over the ice, and the Russians seemed to add fire to their play. But Brad Marchand marches right back, dekes through his man, 1 on 1, and nearly scores, but gets stapled to the post. The scene of the rink is still picture perfect as mist hazes over the ice, creating an amazing atmosphere. Berinier is still holding a shutout through nearly 2 periods of play. And then, with 2 mins. left, Brandon Sutter feeds Legein an amazing pass, who then snipes it into the top right corner of the net, just above Bobrovsky's glove.
2-0 Canada.
And the secound period draws to an end.

Third Period: Tavares makes some amazing dekes but cant get the puck in the back of the net. There is still a thick fog, which seems to be getting thicker and thicker. And now John Bernier can smell a shutout. The Russians are ttrying everything they can to score: including pushing and shoving.(suprisingly no diving.) Kyle ALzner had a great defensive game, like game 1. Tensions are running high, still, as there's another big pile up of players, and now Canada is gifted with a power play. After a Canadian shot, there was another pile up at the net, and then Tavares was sent to the "sin bin" where he screamed his disapproval at the refs. There's nine minutes left in the game now, and the Russians are desperate. Then Bernier makes a pair of good pad saves. Now Bernier is 7 mins. from a shutout. Canada iis winning the important faceoffs. Then one of the best goals you will ever imagine happened.Dave Perron deked around his man, he pulled right of the goaltender, and then on nearly one foot backhanded behind him, and the goaltender, and then into the back of the net. it's one of those goals that you have to see to appreciate.
3-0 Canada.
Then theres 1 minute left, and Russia knows they're just going to have to wait for game 3. Game over. And Canada sweeps Russia in Ufa, and Bernier gets a well deserved shutout."

great game the score could have been a lot higher in Canada's favour tho.  Russia came out flat and couldn't regain there composure because of players like Sutter laying very one out.  Bernier was good but I think Mason played better, they were more quality shots last game against Mason.  Tavares played a lot better, couldn't finish but he made a lot happen.  Turris has been the surprise player for me, never really saw much of him playing in Burnaby but the kids no joke.  Perron's goal was amazing, breathe taking.  Player of the game for me is no doubt Sutter.  His hits kept Russia off there game and his ability to win key face offs was impressive.  Again he was a force on defense and he even got an assist, great player.

Who cares about this series anyways? Back in 72', it was interesting because u didn't know the style of hockey that Russia played and never heard of any of the players. Now its basically Canada's JR team vs the Russian JR team. These 2 have probably faced each other 10 times this year by now. The mystery is over. This "Super Series" is wayyyyyyyyy to over-hyped.

I am so psyched that Canada is winning this.. and I made sure to watch this game and last. But I am distressed at one thing so far and that is Perron's goal. Is it just me, or was that goal a major goaltender interference. I saw this goal live, and re-watched it many times and every time I look at the goal I just can't see how this was legal. Perron put his body between he and the russian goaltender and then pushed him out of the way, then backhanded the puck.

Is there an IIHF rule that says that a player can push the goaltender out of his crease as long as he has the puck..... or was it the canadian referees just "letting one go"?

I finally got to see a highlight on youtube with the Sutter and Cherepanov hit. On that same play, before the hit, Cherepanov tripped Sutter in the offensive zone by extending his leg, right before he got the puck. Obviously Sutter took exception and hunted him down, although perhaps his only intention was to tattoo "Canada" across Cherepanov's forehead.
