Hockey is the game canadians can't seem to get enough of. It's like an addiction similar to playing the spin palace casino games. But most importantly it is down to the loyalty as a fellow canadian to follow the country's number 1 sport!

 World Juniors a Month Away

Team Canada blankKingCanada writes "The World Junior Championship in Leksand Sweden is about a month away so i believe its time to start looking at what Canada's roster will look like

There are currently 6 eligible Canadians playing in the NHL

Jonathan Toews (CHI)
Sam Gagner (EDM)
Jordan Staal (PIT)
David Perron (STL)
Milan Lucic (BOS)
James Sheppard (MIN)

Now i dont believe that any of these players with the exception of Lucic will be available to play. Toews, Gagner and Staal are all integral parts or their teams and Perron and Sheppard are doing pretty decently on their respective teams (they are still possible to play). Lucic has only 2 points and hasnt played in all the games so i believe Boston would make him available to gain experience.

From last years team i believe the returning players will be;

Leland Irving (CGY) Goaltender for Everett Silvertips WHL
Karl Alzner (WSH) defenceman for Calgary Hitmen WHL
Brad Marchand (BOS) forward for Val'Dor Forreurs QMJHL

Correct me if im mistaken but i believe everyone else on that team is too old to play because they are all 88s or are playing in the NHL. So here is a list of a bunch of other players i think have a shot at making the team, feel free to add others that im most likely going to miss.

Forwards
Jonathan Tavares Oshawa Generals OHL
Steven Stamkos Sarnia Sting OHL
Kyle Turris (PHO) University of Wisconsin
Zack Hamill (BOS) Everett Silvertips WHL
Logan Couture (SJS) Ottawa 67's OHL
Brandon Sutter (CAR) Red Deer Rebels WHL
Colton Gillies (MIN) Sasketoon Blades WHL
Angelo Esposito (PIT) Quebec Remparts QMJHL
Logan MacMillan (ANA) Halifax Mooseheads QMJHL
Brett Maclean (PHO) Oshawa Generals OHL
Dustin Jeffrey (PIT) Sault St Marie Greyhounds OHL
Shawn Matthias (DET) Belleville Bulls OHL
Kyle Beach Everett Silvertips WHL
Mark Santorelli Chilliwack Bruins WHL

Defenseman
Thomas Hickey (LA) Seattle Thunderbirds WHL
Keaton Ellerby (FLO) Kamloops Blazers WHL
Alexandre Plante (EDM) Calgary Hitmen WHL
Alex Pietrangelo Niagra IceDogs OHL
Drew Doughty Guelph Storm OHL
Luke Schenn Kelowna Rockets WHL

Goalie
As of goalies i dont know so feel free to fill em in"

Irving and Bernier as goalies with Bernier I think as the day 1 starter. The Kings send him back down and he did so well in the "Superseries" that I think he'll be the #1. I might add Ryan White who plays for the Hitmen as a possible 3rd or 4th line guy with some upside as a guy who might have a shot

None of the NHL guys will be going to the Juniors. As for goalies, Bernier as #1 and Irving #2. Canada's definitely not going to be the most talented group of players but they should be the odds on favourite. They got 2 really good scoring lines then 2 checking lines that can chip in at times. The Russians will likely give Canada a run for their money this year as will the Americans.

One name I think you should add to that list is Jadran Beljo of the London Knights. He's played superbly since being traded to London. He currently has 14 goals and 12 assists through 21 games and had 36 goals and 79 points in Mississauga last year.

It's gonna be hard to win the Gold and even harder to keep the win streak going.

On a side note, who is coaching Canada this year at the WJHC?

Just a quick note: Shawn Matthias isn't a Wings prospect anymore. He was traded to Florida in the Bertuzzi deal at the deadline last season.

I am happy to see a post which discusses non-professional hockey. However I must offer one criticism of this posting. The tournament is not in Sweden this year but will be held in Czech Republic. I do not want anyone to fly to Sweden and become depressed upon finding that there is nothing but darkness and expensive beer.

Del Zotto from the  Oshawa Generals will definitely be apart of the defensive core

I do believe this is an udner 20 tourney so 88's should play.

Meaning Ranger's center Justin Azevedo shoud be a lock with 56 points in 27 games

Nick Spaling (LW) with 44 points (26 goals) in 28 games should be considered

Matt Halischuk (RW) with 47 points in 28 games should also be considered.

I have not followed the junior selection much so I was not sure who was invited to the camp but the three mentioned has put the Rangers as a fave for the mem cup title this year.

It would make sense to have this as your second line.  No problem with chemistry.

GO RANGERS GO!

What about Claude Giroux? He is second in the Q in points and has a plus 21. He also had a 100 plus points last season. I think he should make the team.

Zach Boychuck, Lethbridge Hurricanes. 91 points last year, He was one of the leaders in the Dub scoring race (tied for 2nd Behind Zach Hamil). 32 points in 30 games this year, he is a solid player who should get serious consideration.

What about Kyle Beach? He is such a talented player. If the 2008 draft wasn't so good he could probably be a 1 overall pick.

He can score, hit, fight, he can do anything. He needs a better attitude though.

An outsider with a shot is Kruise Reddick of the Tri-City Americans, he is 16th in scoring in the WHL and has a good two-way game. Little on the small side but has great scoring upside. Mind you he is a '90 birthday.

Apparently Lucic, Sheppard, Staal and Toews have NOT been made available to the Canadian team.

Hockey Canada's Brad Pascal is still waiting for a response from Edmonton and St Louis for Sam Gagner and David Perron.
