Re: Schneider, Beauchemin dead Ducks? (Score: 1) by habsrock99 on Wednesday, December 12 (User Info | Send a Message) | This entire episode with Burke and Niedermayer's return is all Burke's doing and it's all his fault. He signed a washed up Todd Bertuzzi for 4 million when he very well knew Niedermayer may comeback and that Corey Perry was a Restriced Free Agent at year's end. Instead of saving 4 million dollars and being very smart, Burke goes out and signs Bertuzzi, forcing himself to make a trade, which leads him to demanding the NHL to re-open CBA talks so that teams can take a portion of a players salary in trades just to help himself out of an idiotic situation which he originally put himself into.
And he's the one who was calling Kevin Lowe an idiot and a dumba$$ for signing Penner to an offer sheet. From the way things look right now, Burke should be thanking Lowe for relieving Anaheim of Penner's salary. I seriously hope no one bails Burke out on this, which would leave him Over the Cap for the rest of the year. |

I know I wouldn't feel comfortable playing there unless I was Getzlaf, Pronger, Perry, Kunitz, Niedys, Giguere and Selanne. |

Re: Schneider, Beauchemin dead Ducks? (Score: 1) by Sheepdog_18 on Wednesday, December 12 (User Info | Send a Message) | OK, so just ot clear things up a little. There is no "Cap Room" issue for this year. The Ducks current salary is at a self imposed 40 million for this season. So even when Neidermayer returns there is still plenty of room to sign Teemu to a one year deal.
The issue that Burke is facing is called "Tagging Room." It is a very simple concept. He has to keep next years estimated salary under this years cap number. No matter if the cap goes up to 1 billion dollars next year he still has to "tag" 50.8 million as the salary of the team next year. Without factoring in Perry that means that he needs to trim $975,000 from NEXT YEARS salary. The team can also make a deal with Perry now that won't be official until the end of the season when they know is Scott comes back for the final year of his deal. That way they don't have to trade a big name until summer, if at all.
Most of the intrest seems to be into the Ducks rather than outward. Everyone would love to get a piece of the Ducks defensive core, and not surprisingly, so does Burke. |

Re: Schneider, Beauchemin dead Ducks? (Score: 1) by KingCanada on Wednesday, December 12 (User Info | Send a Message) | This is just pure speculation on my part but i wonder if Anaheim and TB can make a trade. TB is desperate for a defenseman (Shneider) and then if Martin St.Louis can wave then he could go the other way. Of course another Anaheim roster player would be included for cap purposes and also draft picks and prospects but i think it could work. Can u guys imagine St.Louis taking passes from Neids? wow..
To Anaheim: Martin St. Louis, mid round pick To Tampa Bay: Mathieu Schneider, Travis Moen, 1st round pick, Logan Macmillan
I think thats about fair, whether both teams are interested i doubt it but it could definatly help Anaheim in its efforts to repeat.
Both teams win -Anaheim gets under the cap and gets St.Louis and improves overall. -TB gets a puck moving defenseman, a grinder and also the pick and Macmillan which will help bolster its horrible prospect pool. |

Or swap Sydor for Orpik to save even more space for the Ducks.
