Cammalleri deal could end Kiprusoff's reign with Flames
Lost in the shuffle that brought Mike Cammalleri back to Calgary is the fact Calgary may just have landed Miikka Kiprusoff’s replacement as part of the six-man deal.
And if indeed Karri Ramo is as good as advertised, how soon will the Flames look to make the move many fans in the Sea of Red have long dreaded: The trading of No. 34?
After all, his no-movement clause expires this July.
Could Iginla go to the Capitals?
The rumor is that the Caps and Flames have discussed the possibility of a swap of Iginla for Semin...in actuality they have been discussing this on and off for two and three quarter years (to my best estimate)
Now however it is gaining some major momentum...
The details I have heard most often are...Alex Semin, Braden Holtby and 2 picks for Jarome Iginla, Chris Butler and a prospect...(some say Howse, a few have said the Caps want Brodie (of course they do!)
Feaster flatly denies Iginla trade rumours
No matter how hard he tries, Calgary Flames GM Jay Feaster can’t make the rumours of a pending Jarome Iginla trade go away.
The Twitterverse was fluttering Thursday night with reports — created by people who don’t put their face or name to their claims — Iginla was the key part of a major deal with the Montreal Canadiens, and all that was left was for the Calgary captain to waive his no-trade clause.
Iginla wants to win with Calgary
If Jarome Iginla is indeed thinking about asking for a trade or even open to that option should the Calgary Flames approach him, he’s not saying.
The long-time Calgary Flames captain and face of the franchise insists he believes the Stampede City is the best situation for him.
Is there a market for Iginla?
I don’t see a big market for Iginla if only because of his $7-million salary next season and most of the contenders are close to the salary cap or maxed out.
Iginla, who is 10 goals from scoring 500 in his career, also has a no-trade clause in his contract and won’t play on a bottom-feeder like the Islanders or another team that has lots of cap room.
So who’s next to leave?
For a team not rebuilding, the Flames are certainly making a lot of changes.
Since last season ended, the following veterans have been sent packing in various ways: Robyn Regehr, Ales Kotalik, Steve Staios, Fredrik Modin, Adam Pardy, Daymond Langkow, Raitis Ivanans and Niklas Hagman, who Monday was claimed by the Anaheim Ducks off re-entry waivers.
Next steps for Jarome Iginla
He's 34 years old, hasn't been in the playoffs since 2009 and is still trying to win his first Stanley Cup. Jarome Iginla and the Flames lost Tuesday night, but he was out there battling. He had one of the best scoring chances on Niklas Backstrom, a shot that hit the post during the Minnesota Wild's 3-0 win. He fought Nick Johnson and was convincing enough in his argument that he was head-butted in the fight to earn a five-minute power play and match penalty for Johnson. But it was another loss for a Flames team that sits in 13th place in the Western Conference with a 6-7-1 record.
