Could the Habs deal Gill to the Flyers?
Tim Gleason was high on Philadelphia’s list of possible defensemen for purchase but that won’t happen with the Carolina Hurricanes' re-signing him Monday.
So what now for Philadelphia?
One name to keep an eye on is veteran blueliner Hal Gill in Montreal.
Habs may be sellers at trade deadline
The Canadiens were prepared for more personnel changes following the decision to trade left winger Michael Cammalleri to Calgary for Rene Bourque.
“At a certain point, you can’t keep firing coaches,” veteran Mathieu Darche said, referring to the firing of head coach Jacques Martin and assistant coach Perry Pearn earlier this season. “It goes down to players. We felt things might happen if we didn’t get better. We have a new player and we move on.”
Spectors Hockey and LePress - Does Cammalleri want out?
LA PRESSE: Francois Gagnon reported Mike Cammalleri’s “read between the lines” comments in a recent interview suggests the unhappy Canadiens winger might welcome a trade. Gagnon acknowledged Cammalleri’s poor play this season and expensive contract could make him hard to move, he doesn’t consider it impossible, suggesting a team seeking scoring punch, like the San Jose Sharks, might be interested.
CANADIENS CAN'T AFFORD TO SIT BACK AND WAIT FOR HELP
The Florida Panthers can expect some support from Montreal tonight.
As it stands, the Canadiens trail New Jersey by seven points for the eighth and final playoff spot in the east. That can all change tonight as the Devils and Panthers square off in New Jersey.
The Canadiens can't afford to just sit back and wait for other teams to help them out, however. They have to go out and take care of their own business, much like they did in their 7-3 drubbing of Winnipeg on Wednesday.
Time for Molson to end GM's horror show
Well, at least Tomas Plekanec and P.K. Subban are showing a little fight. Pity they're taking their frustrations out on one another rather than the opposition.
You can't blame these guys for being frustrated -but Plekanec and Subban did not create this mess. Neither did Jacques Martin, or Perry Pearn, or Guy Carbonneau, or Claude Julien, Doug Jarvis, Guy Boucher, Julien BriseBois or any of the other talented individuals who have been fired or allowed to get away during this interminable reign of error.
Habs GM deserves boot, not well-respected coach
Pierre Gauthier proved Saturday he’ll do anything to save his own butt.
Rather than shoulder the responsibility for a season that’s gone terribly wrong and make deals, the Montreal Canadiens sent coach Jacques Martin packing and replaced him with former Senators captain Randy Cunneyworth.
With the Habs struggling as they prepared to face the New Jersey Devils Saturday night at the Bell Centre, Martin joined what’s become a long list of unemployed bench bosses when he was given his walking papers by Gauthier in the morning.
CANADIENS FIRE MARTIN; CUNNEYWORTH NAMED INTERIM HEAD COACH
Jacques Martin has paid the price for the Montreal Canadiens' poor season.
The Canadiens fired their head coach, announcing assistant Randy Cunneyworth will be the interim head coach for the remainder of the season.
Larry Carriere, Montreal's assistant general manager, will become an assistant coach.
The Canadiens (13-12-7) are last in the Northeast Division.
