Report: Bab***** says Mike Modano joining Wings is 'inevitable'
Mike Bab***** apparently is not beyond making a little news on a summer's day, as he raised money for the Children's Hospital Fund of Saskatchewan.
According to NHL.com, Bab***** said Friday that Mike Modano, the 40-year-old native of Livonia who is a lock for the Hockey Hall of Fame, will inevitably sign with the Red Wings this summer.
Red Wings News
The Wings have offered a two-year deal to unrestricted free-agent forward
Todd Bertuzzi . They also have extended qualifying offers to all five of their restricted free agents: forwards
Patrick Eaves, Drew Miller,
Justin Abdelkader and
Darren Helm and defenseman
Derek Meech . There have been some preliminary talks with the agents for Eaves and Miller. Eaves, Miller and Meech all have arbitration rights.
Red Wings' Ken Holland will push GMs for OT changes
Red Wings general manager Ken Holland, fresh off securing the services of elite defenseman
Nicklas Lidstrom for another year, will be in Philadelphia today for meetings with his NHL colleagues.
While agenda topics will include head shots and how better to deal with them, Holland has his own topic he wants discussed.
"I'd like to see more games decided in overtime than shoot-out," Holland said Tuesday. "I don't mind the shoot-out, I just don't want the shoot-out to decide so many games."
Kirk Maltby may not be Wing in '11
The Red Wings cleaned out their lockers Monday, an annual event that always feels like the last day of the school year. After sitting in the same room together for months, everybody is about to scatter for the summer.
Kirk Maltby among Wings pondering fate with team
Kirk Maltby walked into the Red Wings locker room Wednesday as he had so many other times after a practice.
He was drenched with sweat, ready to collapse onto the stool in front of his locker, relax for a little while and then go work in the weight room.
Red Wings learn lesson in cool from captain Nicklas Lidstrom
The Red Wings don't panic. I sometimes question if they even have a blood pressure, because they remain even-tempered even when faced with a stressful challenge.
The lone hint of alarm approaching tonight's crucial Game 2 against the Sharks was
Dan Cleary's displeasure with his accuracy off the tee during a relaxing round of golf during the team's day off Friday.
Todd Bertuzzi is unsure about his future
Todd Bertuzzi wouldn't go there. Not now. Not with a critical Game 5 looming just a few short hours away.
"I am not looking beyond this right here," he said. "I just want to win. I want what all these guys have had here (my name on the Stanley Cup). Just being around here, it makes you appreciate what they've gone through in order to get it. It's a tough battle and we are still a long way away. But my only goal is to accomplish that."
The question was about his future. Before the season, Bertuzzi couldn't tell you if he would play beyond this season. Heck, early on, he wasn't sure he'd make it through this season. He was coming off three straight injury-plagued seasons. He missed 97 games from 2006 through 2009.
