Alexei Yashin still deciding on future
The 37-year-old former captain said today he's just "enjoying skating with the guys" and hasn't settled on plans for next season.
Yashin has been working out at IceWorks with nearly the entire Islanders veteran roster for the past few weeks and did so again today after attending last night's rookie game at the Coliseum, where he sat for two periods with owner Charles Wang and GM Garth Snow.
Bryan McCabe still waits for deal
The 36-year-old unrestricted free agent is hanging out at his South Florida home still pondering his future.
"There have been discussions with several teams," his agent, Ian Pulver, told ESPN.com on Monday. "Bryan is still considering his options."
Selanne might put off decision until camp
Teemu Selanne raised the possibility Friday of putting off his decision of playing a final NHL season with the Ducks until after training camp opens next week.
Selanne skated each day this week in informal workouts at Anaheim Ice and continues to maintain he wants to announce a decision before camp opens Sept. 17, saying that “it would be best for everybody.”
Former Sharks defenseman Andrei Zyuzin looking at NHL return
If reports are to be believed, Jaromir Jagr might not be the only former NHLer coming back to North America from the KHL this season. Genadi Boguslavski of Sovetsky Sport out of Russia reports that former Sharks first round pick in 1996 defenseman Andrei Zyuzin is close to returning to the NHL. Yahoo’s Dmitry Chesnokov follows that report up saying that Zyuzin has two offers from NHL teams to return to the NHL after a three season absence from the league.
Report: Alexei Yashin eyes NHL return
Russian centre Alexei Yashin is considering a return to the National Hockey League with the New York Islanders according to a report by Canadian sports broadcaster TSN.
The Islanders confirmed on Friday that Yashin and his agent Mark Gandler have been in discussions with the NHL club and may make his return from the KHL this season.
Kaberle yet to cash in on unrestricted free-agent status
It’s a tough time to be a free agent.
Tomas Kaberle, Christian Hanson and Darryl Boyce are finding that out as unrestricted free agents.
Clarke MacArthur and Tyler Bozak are going to find that out as restricted free agents.
Tuesday is the deadline for MacArthur and Bozak to file for arbitration. If it goes that far, arbitration on their cases could go as late as the first week of August.
Agent: Jagr decision to come today
The agent for Jaromir Jagr said his client is in New York and said today he expects a decision about Jagr's NHL future by the end of today.
Petr Svoboda said he was scheduled to speak with Penguins general manager Ray Shero shortly. This was around 9:20 a.m.
"We are going to exchange some things," Svoboda said, adding that he would also speak with Detroit and Montreal about Jagr.
Islanders can't reach a deal for Ehrhoff
General manager Garth Snow took a risk in hopes of improving the Islanders before the start of free agency, but it did not work out.
Less than 24 hours after acquiring the rights to Christian Ehrhoff , talks between the Islanders and the 28-year-old defenseman broke down and Snow shipped those rights to the Buffalo Sabres Wednesday for a fourth-round pick, just what he gave the Vancouver Canucks for the shot at Ehrhoff to begin with.
