Petr Sykora not happy about being relegated on Wild bench

Wild Petr Sykora - Icon SMIBruce Brothers

Wild wing Petr Sykora wasn't thrilled to find himself glued to the bench during much of his team's 3-1 loss to the Chicago Blackhawks on Monday night. So when he was left out of the lineup by coach Todd Richards for the game against Nashville on Wednesday night, it probably didn't improve his state of mind.

Sykora, who has scored 20 or more goals for the past 10 NHL seasons, said Wednesday morning that whether or not Richards was sending a message Monday night, "I can't be worried about that. It's something I can't control."

But being on the ice for only 9 minutes, 36 seconds while Martin Havlat, who started the game on Sykora's opposite wing, was on the ice for 20:14, did not make for a happy guy after the game.

"You know, I can score some goals," Sykora said, "and obviously the less you play it's harder to get yourself into scoring chances."

Sykora, 32, noted that he missed part of the Wild's training camp before he signed as a free agent, then missed nearly two weeks with a groin strain or he might have more than one goal in six games. But he said ice time creates chances, which boosts confidence, which creates goals, and he wants to show that to Richards.

"It's been a little rough road, but I'm here to prove to him that I'm worth playing more than 10 minutes, and I'll try to do that. I believe in my capabilities of scoring goals," he said.

He wasn't available for comment Wednesday night.

Speaking of former Pens .....

The Penguins announced today that Malkin will be out for 2 - 3 weeks.

Bleh. With Gonchar already out, thats a bit of a blow. I wonder if they will bring up Tangradi?

Anywho, luckily the Pens start has given them a bit of a cushion (thank god). Hopefully, they can keep it on track and Geno is only out for a few games.
