flopfish writes "Alex Ovechkin is flat-out the best overall player in hockey. He can do everything from huge hits, to huge goals, but, how many goals is Number 8 capable of? He scored 65 goals on 2007, and is off to a quick start with 14 goals in 14 games. Is he capable of maintaining that pace throughout the whole year? If he does, I could see him reaching 80+ and coming close to Gretzky's record, which is thought to be impossible to reach. He's got the finish, and he's got the linemates. Niklas Backstrom and Ovechkin have unbelievable chemistry, and having Mike Green at the point will do some good too.
With that in mind, I think Ovechkin is best goal-scorer to play in the NHL ever. He has the talent to eclipse Gretzky's record, but the only question is can he do it."

i disagree with him being the best player in hockey, but he is obviously the best goal scorer.
really though? the best goal scorer in nhl history? gretzky, lemieux, bossy, malone, lalonde, esposito, brett hull, bobby hull, to name a few. i know its kind of unfair to compare him to a malone or lalonde, but i dont think theres any chance he tops most of the guys on that list. and im sure there are others im leaving out. but best goal scorer right now, bar-none obviously.
i think he'll end up with around 60-65 again. the point totals seem to be going down every year. if this were 05/06 id say he could pot 70-75, but with teams wisening up defensively to the new rules, ill say 60-65.
btw did anyone see that passing play on the caps first goal yesterday? holy *****!!!

I dont believe he will ever get to 92 goals.
In 81-82, when Wayne hit that number, the oilers scored something like 420 goals .. in 80 games. Thats over 5 goals a game. No team in recent history has even come close to that. The game isnt the same now. Not to mention that he also had 212 points that year where the next closest was Bossy, who had less than 150. The highest season totals in recent years was 126 by Thornton a few years ago.
Right now, the Caps are on pace to score 305 goals this year and Ovie is on pace for 82 (although he is injured so that will drop).
Can he hit 80? Sure, pretty unlikely but sure. I think its more realistic to expect that he will hit 73 or so. Dont get me wrong .. thats still a ridiculous number.

He kind of tweeked his shoulder yesterday and maybe his knee later on. I hope he's not hurt.
Assuming he stays healthy, he definitely has the ability to hit 70 if he can keep it up. 80 would be unreal but who knows, at some point in his career it could happen. 90, hmmm I really doubt it, think of how amazing it is to hit 60, now multiply that by 1.5. Right? That's asking a ton.

Of course Ovie could hit 80 if he scored at a goal a game So could Matt Moulson or Lee Stempniak or Travis Moen or any player in the league but can he keep up that pace NO Ovie will never score more than 70 - 75 goals he will never eclipse Gretzky what makes you say he could even get 80 in a year let alone break into 90 goals because he may be very offensively gifted but he is not that talented and Crosby is still better than Ovie

He's gone for a few weeks, 60-65 goals, if he weren't injured he could hit 70
