albertateams writes "The Calgary Flames are off to a decent start 8-4-1, however something just doesn't seem to be right with the flames. At times they have played well this year however in my opinion they are fortunate to have the record they have.
Key stats for the flames this year
goals per game 3.54 - 2nd goals against 3.15 24th pp% 27.5 - 2nd pk% - 81.1 12th
Goaltending outside of a couple of games has not been an issue with Kipper and Mchilinney playing pretty well. The defense has been good in the offensive zone with Jay Bo 1-6-7/Dion 5-4-9/ and Giordano 1-6-7 leading the way. Even Regehr is on pace for a career high already having as many points as last year. The Offense has been distributed throughout the line up and JI appears to be coming around. Olli has been disappointing this season, but Bourque has been a beast.
What is disturbing is that the flames are second last in shots per game and 22nd in shots against per game. With that much touted D core not playing up to expectations in their own end of the rink. I think there are obvious chemistry issues on the team. Hopefully they will be able to work through them and find a combination of lines and D pairings that work. But as of right now they are lucky to have the record they do. "

You're right. Although the last 2 games (Dallas and St. Louis), they were playing a great physical game, and that's what allowed them to win thos games. And only 3 goals have been allowed too, thanks to McEhlinney and Kipper. Maybe it's signs of better things to come. Oh, and Iggy has started to play like Iggy again.
Calgary will be just fine you watch. Way too much character and leadership on this team. I mean is there really a better leader in hocky than Iggy? Scores, hits and fights.

I honestly think everybody overhyping about the olympics is the reason some guys a struggling to get out of the gate.
Even so, Iginla will pick it up. He always does, he's one of the best. Haha I think he misses going against Ohund, Ohlund always got iggy riled up. When is tampa in town haha.

The Flames players were all just too worried about H1N1 to start the season. Now that they have got their shots, they'll be just fine.
Seriously though, it was a very positive sign to see Kipper actually show up to play in October. Sure, his stats weren't great, but he wasn't letting in near as many weak goals as he had in the beginning of previous years. And McElhinney getting the win in Dallas the other night just proves what I've been saying all along - He's a good goalie, maybe not starter material, but a solid backup, the problem is that every time he steps in the team dosn't show up. Last year the team was dreadful every single time he was between the pipes and he got the blame for all those losses. It wasn't his fault and I think we'll see that this year.
With Iggy starting to roll again, I think we'll see that it just took time for the rest of the team to get on the same page as each other. Once Olli gets going, this team will be scary. They've already shown they can dominate stretches of the game and be very explosive in bursts. The chemistry is coming and it's going to get better. As for team defence, I think we'll see the Goals-Against per game drop continuously through the season as this team gets more used to playing a system for a change. Patience will be rewarded.

Luckily they are still getting a good amount of wins while they try to adjust to a new coach and system. Too bad they didn't catch on as quick as Colorado has under the same cir*****stances. If Dion can learn to play defense and Olli plays like he can, they should be very difficult to win against. They are spending way too much time in their own end and that has to change.

I'll tell you what the problem is. The players are not eating properly. There's new medical research out showing a steady diet of cocoa and popcorn improves skating. Last but not least, the players gotta be masters of their domain.

What's wrong?
1- Rene Bourque is your leading scorer. 2- Jokinen is on the team. No team with him on it wins, period. Over-hyped.
