DARREN DREGER
Two surprising names have surfaced to fuel the possibility of NHL trades. Anaheim defenceman Scott Niedermayer is one, and sophomore Dallas forward Fabian Brunnstrom the other.
The Newark Star-Ledger quoted Niedermayer as saying, "I think it's a possibility," when asked about being traded by Anaheim this season. Niedermayer doesn't have a no-trade clause, but in follow-up, Niedermayer says his family loves Anaheim and he isn't interested in leaving.
League sources say Dallas GM Joe Nieuwendyk is receiving interest in Fabian Brunnstrom. He scored 17 goals in 55 NHL games last season but has just one in 17 games this season. Critics say Brunnstrom hasn't adjusted to the North American game. However, the 24-year-old was highly sought after by a dozen NHL clubs prior to signing with the Stars in May, 2008.
If Brunnstrom does come on the market, you can be sure the buzz won't rival that of his free agent status. But if at any point this season Scott Niedermayer hits the market, there will be many who will want in on this Duck hunt.

Re: DREGER: NIEDERMAYER, BRUNNSTROM SUBJECTS OF TRADE TALK (Score: 1) by number15 on Friday, November 13 (User Info | Send a Message) | some people say Brunnstrom is a bust.... but he scored 17 goals in 55 games as a rookie!
no one was expecting him to be the next Crosby, and if u were u were way off. He has 25 goal potential written all over him. plus he is decently young still.
hey if Dallas dosent want him, i hope Burke can get a bargain here....

Re: DREGER: NIEDERMAYER, BRUNNSTROM SUBJECTS OF TRADE TALK (Score: 1) by cam7777 on Friday, November 13 (User Info | Send a Message) | I'm going to take a stab in the dark and say that something eventually gets done between Dallas and Minnesota. Dallas needs a backup goaltender, and a puck-moving defensemen. Minnesota needs some young, high-upside, scoring potential:
to the Dallas Stars: Josh Harding, Marek Zidlicky to the Minnesota Wild: Fabian Brunnstrom, Jeff Woywitka, 2nd round pick 2010 |

Re: DREGER: NIEDERMAYER, BRUNNSTROM SUBJECTS OF TRADE TALK (Score: 1) by cam7777 on Friday, November 13 (User Info | Send a Message) | As for Niedermayer, I don't think Bob Murray is keen on moving him. I'm sure his fanbase isn't exactly thrilled that they got rid of Pronger, and are now on their way to tanking their division. Pronger left his mark on that team, and the penalties are continuing on without him. The real problem is that the defense is just too new, and the big line isn't getting it done thus far. Koivu is also a disappointment in the Western Conference.
Maybe they'd be interested in bringing back Beauchemin. There owner has just been re-instated, and so the money faucet should be turned back on. Niedermayer has not been able to shoulder the burden alone, and Beauchemin has been sub-par in Toronto. Is it a possitiblity that the two franchises could come to an agreement that would essentially put a mulligan on the whole summer transaction?
Anyone who follows the Leafs can tell you that Burke over-signed defensemen in the off-season. He needed only one of Komisarek and Beauchemin, and clearly under-estimated White yet again. Schenn and White are the best pairing after Kaberle and Komisarek, which leaves Beauchemin playing in the bottom pairing most of the time, alongside Jeff Finger. That means the team has a combined 7.3 million invested in the 5th and 6th defensemen. It's not a problem now, but both players are locked up for two more seasons after this. There might never be a better time to save face on this deal, and just call it a re-do.
Who knows, Beauchemin probably hasn't even sold his home in Anaheim yet, or fully made the transition over to Toronto. If he has a family, I'm sure that this is pretty much the only move that would be acceptible to him. It is the one move Burke can make with Beauchemin that wouldn't be seen as under-handed (ie. moving Beauchemin to Dallas at the deadline 6 months after signing him), and could easily be explained away by cir*****stance. I wouldn't expect such a move to hinder Burke's reputation of being a player's GM, and should not tarnish his ability to land big-name free agents.
I would ask for Philadelphia's 1st round pick in 2010. Playing for the Ducks, Beauchemin was considered an Olympic quality defensemen. A 25th-30th overall pick is worth it to get Niedermayer, and the team, back on track. This would essentially mean they traded Pronger for Beauchemin, Lupul, Sbisa, and a 1st (Palmieri) - not a bad deal when you look at it that way. Burke simultaneously takes the pressure off his group by recouping a 1st, and shutting up the media about the Kessel deal, and also does what is necessary to get Schenn back on-track - provide him with more ice time. |

Re: DREGER: NIEDERMAYER, BRUNNSTROM SUBJECTS OF TRADE TALK (Score: 1) by nordiques100 on Friday, November 13 (User Info | Send a Message) | not just from this game tonight vs chicago, but based on the whole season, i think the leafs should send Schenn down on a "conditioning" stint.
i know with komisarek out its not ideal but maybe when he returns they should send him down and let him play to death for 2 weeks in all situations.
i think playing 30 minutes down there, maybe getting PP time, maybe that will help his confidence, conditioning and skills.
he is struggling badly and needs a boost. playing 12 minutes a night just isnt going to cut it.

How a goal judge can overlook a glove behind the goal line and footage of a puck going in and out of that goal conclude that there isn't clear evidence of a goal. Dismiss the goal simply because they can't see the puck. Are they precognitive infants that can't logically conclude that the puck didn't actually disappear and hence must be in the goaltender's glove. Epsilons...

I cannot believe the team's luck. The consolation is that Calgary has done this to pretty much everyone. Ugh. |
