BLUE_AND_WHITE writes "Teams looking or a solid man between the pipes have a surprisingly large variety.
Here are teams looking to trade or aquire a goaltender.
Philadelphia - Trade Esche (GAA 5.64, SV% .820, 1 million, 1 year left) - Aquire a good backup
Buffalo - Trade Biron (GAA 3.10, SV% .893, 2.1 million, 1 year left) - Aquire a much cheaper backup
Toronto - Trade Tellqvist (GAA 2.02, SV% .895, 0.6 million, 1 year left) Montreal - Trade Aebischer (GAA 3.05, SV% .911, 1.9million, 1 year left)
Boston - Aquire a starter
Ottawa - Trade Gerber (GAA 3.45, SV% .890, 3.7 million, 3 years left) - Aquire a good backup
San Jose - Trade Nabokov (GAA 2.27, SV% .921, 5.4 million, 4 years left)
Pheonix - Aquire a starter
(Anaheim was not included, because they are happy keeping the goaltending situation the way it is, at least for now)
All in all there is 2 teams looking for a starter with 3 teams shopping potential starting goaltenders. There are 3 teams looking for a backup, and 3 teams shopping a backup. While situations may change, there is reason to believe that goaltenders will be shifted around the league. The only question is when.

Esche, Gerber and Aebishire are all in that good-but-not great category, take your pick from those guys, I'd just go with the cheapest one. |

Re: Goaltender swap (Score: 1) by markjohnston (gole@fs.go) on Sunday, November 19 (User Info | Send a Message) | nabokov and biron are both really good tenders.
abby and telly are solid backups - telly obviously is the more attractive since he's dirt cheap.
gerber is way too expensive. I think ottawa is stuck with him unless they take some salary the other way.
I wouldn't touch esche with a 20 foot pole. even at an even million. I think you're just as likely to get decent tending from just about anyone in the AHL who would cost you next to nothing.

Re: Goaltender swap (Score: 1) by TheFish12 on Monday, November 20 (User Info | Send a Message) | I don't think any goalie from Buffalo, Anaheim or San Jose is getting traded. Those are the three teams leading the league in the standings so far, and all have 2 very good goalies, coincidence, don't think so. Wouldn't be surprised to see more teams try this style out and starting goalies evenly. It makes sense unless one of your goalies is nmed Brodeur. It keeps both healthy (less chance of injury with more rest) and keeps both goalies sharp as they are competing with each other. |

Re: Goaltender swap (Score: 1) by JannettyTheRocker (2006 WESTERN CONFERENCE CHAMPS) on Monday, November 20 (User Info | Send a Message) | If I'm Montreal, I'd keep both Aebisher & Huet, until atleast next summer. The two goalie system is working great for them.
For San Jose, I'm hoping they trade Nabokov to the Columbus Blue Jackets, in exchange for draft picks/prospects. The Jackets need a fresh start, with a solid starting goaltender, and Nabokov would be a good fit in Ohio.
For Philadelphia, give up some prospects/draft picks, and get Martin Biron. He's the starting goaltender that your team has been looking for for many years.
And in Ottawa, I feel really bad for your team. They have gotten off to a rocky start (which happens to all teams at some point), and the fans & media have started to get anxious. I say, keep Gerber & Emery together, and ride them until later into the season. I'm willing to put money down that Gerber will turn his season around. If a deal should come up for a great goaltender, that you can't turn down, then fine. Just don't go giving up too much to get a different goaltender.
For Phoenix, why even bother getting another starting goaltender, you have Cujo. Quit worrying about winning the Stanley Cup for this season, because your lineup is lame. Start the re-building process again, trade away your veterans and start building with youth and speed. I'm so tired of seeing the Coyotes/Jets franchise losing. Also, let's dump Barnett/Gretzky (sorry Wayne), and get a veteran GM/Coach combo in there.
And Boston, I don't feel bad for you at all. You dumb asses traded away Raycroft for nothing, and now you're worried about getting a starting goalie??? Suffer for your dumb mistake.
And finally, Toronto. Keep Tellqvist. He's a solid backup, and you'd be crazy to lose him (unless you get offered something spectacular).
That's my two cents!!!

Ottawa has gerber locked up at a high price for 3 years. he isn't going anyhere.
To Boston: Nabokov To San Jose: Murray (Boston keeps Toivonen in the minors, San Jose calls up Schaefer)
To Montreal: Esche, 2nd round pick To Philly: Aebischer
To Pheonix: Biron To Buffalo: Tellqvist, Nagy To Toronto: Buffalo 3rd round pick

Gerber and Hatcher were both poor signings and maybe new locations will turn around their performances.
Gerber and Esche each get new starts. Hatcher can provide the Sens with a leadership figure and takes some pressure off Alfredsson. And the 3rd rounder from Philly evens up Hatcher's extra salary.

Re: Goaltender swap (Score: 1) by 92-93 on Monday, November 20 (User Info | Send a Message) | With Boucher playing OK, and with Joseph looking like he is rebounding, it might just be best for the Coyotes to get a guy like Telly who is cheap and is a solid-back up for depth purposes.
The Leafs can ask for a mid-round pick and that'll be enough.
If I were the Leafs I would try for a large package that would see some of their young defencemen go that way too (either to get a bigger name from the Coytoes or to get a higher round draft pick). |

Re: Goaltender swap (Score: 1) by 92-93 on Tuesday, November 21 (User Info | Send a Message) | this is COMPLETELY off topic ... but i just want to hear some feedback on this.
at the beginning of the year i predicted that the East would have 5 good teams at the top (Ott, Carolina, Buff, NJ, NYR) and there would be a 10-team race for the final 3 playoff spots. Although the Rangers have been inconsistent and Ottawa had been struggling, both teams are turning it around now and it will be a matter of time before they are near the top of their divisions.
If that is the case, that would be pretty insane, that there would be 10 teams that would contend for those last 3 spots. Who of the 10 teams below do you think would make it?
Boston -------- Pittsburgh ------ Wash Toronto ------- Philly ----------- Atlanta Montreal ------ NYI ------------- Florida ------ TB
Right now, my picks would be Montreal, Philly, and Atlanta. HOWEVER, all of these 3 teams have shown me things that suggest that they don't have what it takes to make it.
Boston is very talented but their goaltending situation needs to improve. If it does, and with their offense and Chara on the blueline, this is a team that should make the playoffs.
The Leafs under Maurice are dynamite so far and have scoring that is very spread out. But Raycroft has to continue his stellar play and the leafs MUST find that #4 D-guy and it has to come from within the organzation.
Montreal is solid, but they lack grit up from and a solid #2 Centre and they are too easy to score against (well at least from the Leafs' perspective).
TB have improved but I still cannot believe that their goaltending is going to take them anywhere.
Florida - like Boston - has loads o' talent, their tandem in net is questionable and is likely to be pretty streaky. Jokinen is a Sundin-type player that can carry them to the playoffs though.
Atlanta - has loads of scoring of course, has some pretty good goaltending, but i am still not a fan of their defence. Hartley is a jerk.
Washington - its still too soon for this team but boy their skill and their hard work makes it seem possible this year. they are tough to beat each and every night.
Philly - rough start but they'll turn it around and that is bad news for everyone else. Their offense is potent but their defence is too slow and their goaltending situation is dicey (however, i think Nittimaki is the guy for the Flyers and that will make itself obvious in the coming months).
Pitts - the next Oiler dynasty? Still very inconsistent, but the talent they have is drop dead frightening to everyone else. they should make it this year on talent ALONE.
NYI - everyone wrote this team off earlier but i just couldnt do it. They have a good coach, a solid couple of offensive lines and some young players coming up. DiPietro IS a good goaltender despite his contract. I would put this team ahead of most of the teams above in terms of making the playoffs.

Re: Goaltender swap (Score: 1) by BosBrn77 on Friday, November 24 (User Info | Send a Message) | After watching the debacle of a game today, Boston needs to do something. First of all, get Axelsson back on the checking line with Donovan and Primeau. Second, stop wasting Kessels talent... get him up with Savard and Murray. Keep Bergeron, Boyes and Sturm together. Re-call Statcny to center Tenkrat and Chistov. So the lines would look like this.
Sturm-Bergeron-Boyes Kessel-Savard-Murray Axelsson-Primeau-Donovan Tenkrat-Statsny-Chistov
Then have Mowers as the scratched player.
The defense is good, but... allowing 5 goals today was pathetic. Chara is the leader, Brad Stuart is playing his a$$ off even with an injury, Alberts hits anything not in a Bruins jersey, Jurcina looks good with Chara, and Mark Stuart just has to control his aggresion. That leaves me to Mara. I really think he is odd man out. And with Boston needing goaltending why not use him as bait. How about...
Bos: Witt & Dunham NYI: Mara
The salaries would be a wash and Boston would have a starter for at least the rest of the year. NY would gain some youth on the blueline.
The defense and goalies would be..
Jurcina-Chara Alberts- B.Stuart M. Stuart-Witt
Dunham Thomas
And I'm not sure if it is just me, but Lewis bothers me! He looks like he could be on the FBI most wanted list in the post office.
Just my two cents!
