TimTheBone writes "Well with the '10-'11 season not getting here fast enough, and also the recent slow down in news/discussion, I figured let's have a little fun.
I recently read an article in "Hockey: The Magazine" where 12 of their writers made some extreme predictions. Each "expert" ranked each team by conference, 1 through 15. Also Each predicted the Stanley Cup winner, the Presidents' Trophy winner, as well as the Hart, Art Ross, Maurice Richard, Vezina, Norris, Calder, and Jack Adams.
The Overall Standings, as Predicted by the "Hockey: The Magazine" 12 experts were as follows:"
If this was the worst summer of Tomas Kaberle’s professional life, he’s not saying. He wasn’t talking about it to Ron Wilson, he wasn’t talking about it to Brian Burke, and he certainly wasn’t talking to the media.

Is Hemsky headed for the injury list or his best ever season?
For all his success, for all the comparisons to Guy Lafleur, Ales Hemsky and his style of play have always been a source of controversy and debate. The man called Hemmer has a tendency to use his tremendous skill to win an advantage on the ice, but then to squander that extra time and space he has earned by holding on to the puck too long. That's the main and long-standing problem.

New Jersey might move Zajac: Should the Leafs inquire?
leafy writes "Okay, here's the deal. Now that the Ilya Kovalchuk contract situation with New Jersey has been resolved, the Devils need to shed around $3.5 to 4 million off their total payroll.
To achieve this goal, there are several published reports that GM Lou Lamoriello wants to move C Travis Zajac."

The Devils general manager must trim $3-6 million in salary cap liability just to start the season, and it's not going to be easy, or without pain.
With Kovalchuk's 15-year, $100 million contract approved by the NHL early yesterday morning, tied to an amendment of the collective bargaining agreement clarifying long-term deals, the Devils stand $3 million over the $59.4 million salary cap, with 21 players under contract.
The Dallas Stars have invited former Ottawa RW Jonathan Cheechoo to camp on a free- agent tryout. He suited up for 61 games with the Senators last year, but finished the year with the club’s AHL affiliate in Binghamton and was bought out at the end of the season. “We’re pleased that Jonathan has accepted our invitation to come to our training camp,”

Another decision day for Devils, Kovalchuk on contract
The suspense thriller that is the Ilya Kovalchuk saga reaches yet another deadline this afternoon. They've meant little so far, but time is running short in this case.
As reported exclusively by Larry Brooks in The Post yesterday, the NHL is tying approval of Kovalchuk's 15-year, $100 million contract with the Devils to the term limits it couldn't win in collective bargaining five years ago, even at the cost of a full season of play.

Missing the Point on Brian Burke and the Leafs
bleeds_blue_n_white writes "Growing up a Maple Leafs fan has been very painful and disappointing. Good teams in the early 90's and 00's aside. We have seen GM after GM come in and make questionable moves, bad trades and worse draft decisions.
We have seen our draft picks flourish elsewhere while watching the one that remain in Toronto wilt under the pressure of playing for the Big Blue. We have watched future HOF's get drafted with our picks, Neidermayer, Luongo, or traded away before they reached their potential for little in return, Randy Carlyle.

Niemi could make decision soon
I talked to a source today that indicated former Blackhawks goalie Antti Niemi is close to making a decision on where he will play this upcoming season. It should happen over the next 48 hours.
According to this source, Niemi has offers from multiple teams. My guess is he’s weighing a short-term deal with a contender -- think San Jose -- rather than a deal with more security for a team that may not be ready to win.

B's still shopping Marc Savard
The Marc Savard trade rumors may have quieted down in the past month, but that doesn't mean the Boston Bruins aren't still exploring a possible deal.
According to a source close to the situation, the Bruins are still "actively shopping" Savard, but trade talks have been "hampered" by interested teams facing cap issues. Also complicating a potential deal, according to the source, is the NHL's investigation into Savard's seven-year contract that has an annual salary cap hit of $4 million for the next seven seasons. The Bruins, of course, have cap issues of their own. They'll need to make a move to get under the cap before the season begins.
