SHARP NETS HAT TRICK AS BLACKHAWKS DOWN DEVILS

Patrick Sharp is on one of those streaks. It seems almost every time he shoots, the puck ends up in the net.

Sharp had his second hat trick in five games and the Chicago Blackhawks avoided a rare second straight loss with a 5-3 victory over the New Jersey Devils on Friday night.

Did Campbell say that he wanted to be in Chicago too

Versteeg went on WGN radio in Chicago this morning and not only said he hoped former Chicago defenseman Brian Campbell would eventually follow him to the Second City, but that other teammates sounded a little jealous in their text messages to him.

Campbell said he never mentioned to Versteeg that he wanted to be in Chicago.

The Blackhawks have made a trade with Florida for Kris Versteeg

The Blackhawks acquired Kris Versteeg from the Florida Panthers, general manager Stan Bowman announced following Chicago’s 5-4 shootout win over the Phoenix Coyotes.

Chicago has lost confidence in Khabibulin

During the course of an NHL season, some games set up better than others for the backup goaltender get the call.

The Blackhawks’ contest against the struggling Oilers on Sunday night at the United Center — their second of back-to-back games — appeared to be the perfect scenario for Nikolai Khabibulin to return to the crease.

Game 6 of the Stanley Cup Playoffs: Critical Keys that Ploughed the Blackhawks’s Road to the Trophy

Whether it is out of love for the game or because of the profitable betting lines, hockey is seen as one of the most popular games, coming in second only after basketball, in the world of indoor sports. Although it is not as popular as football and basketball, it still manages to earn a fair share of spectators who either love the spirit of the game, or love to wager on hockey and make a good fortune. Betting on hockey can be quite a profitable venture once a person has a clear understanding of the key elements, adopts the right hockey wagering strategy, and picks up on the best NHL odds. Sites such as http://www.wageronsports.com/wagering-strategy/nhl-hockey provide the required information for picking up the best betting strategy and sports odds for increasing the chances of winning a friendly wager or bet.

With the Stanley Cup winding down to its final stages, sports betting online was in its full swing until today, when the Blackhawks managed to steal the show for the fifth time. The game 6 of the Stanley Cup Playoffs gave something to cherish to all the Chicago supporters for a lifetime. The Chicago Blackhawks managed to pull off certainly one of the most doubtful comebacks in the history of this championship. With just 76 seconds left on the clock, Blackhawks gave bettors a reason to spend the next couple of days in delight. With a lead of 3-2 already in their hands after Game 5, it wasn’t a surprise to see them picking up the trophy and bringing summers two days earlier than what the Bruins expected.

The final performance of the surging Blackhawks can be dedicated to some critical aspects of their game that showed the desperate Bruins the way back home.

Source: Blackhawks trying to acquire Islanders’ Nielsen

A source confirmed to the Daily Herald on Saturday that the Blackhawks and Islanders have been talking multiplayer trade with the centerpiece of the deal being New York center Frans Nielsen.

According to the source, the Hawks are seeking help on defense because they are nervous about going into the playoffs with Johnny Oduya as their fourth defenseman.

Pens, Bruins, Hawks and Kings on Iginla’s list

As the April 3 NHL trade deadline approaches, speculation continues to swirl around Calgary Flames captain Jarome Iginla.

Hawks looking for a Madden type player

The Blackhawks had internal meetings last week in which they drew up their short list of trade targets.

“We’ve identified players that we think would help us,” Bowman told ESPN.com. “I’ve called to let those teams know: ‘This is a player we’re interested in, you may not be interested in moving him now or ever, but …’ they take note of it. Nobody I’ve talked to yet has wanted to talk further about it, they filed it away. So it’s a waiting game.”

Liles and Brian Bickell Rumors

With the Toronto Maple Leafs scratching John-Michael Liles, it’s clear they’re trying to shop him. The arrival of Mike Kostka from their AHL farm team, makes Liles redundant. Question is why he was signed to that four-year, $15.5-million contract last. His $3.8-million salary-cap hit makes a trade tough, but teams can work deals now to pick up a percentage of salary.

Blackhawks have chance to make NHL history Tuesday against Canucks

Word about the record started trickling into the Blackhawks’ dressing room after their victory Friday against the San Jose Sharks.

The Hawks were closing in on the most successful start in NHL history. Not only that, but the three teams to go the furthest into a
season without losing a game in regulation — a group the Hawks had joined with that victory — all had won the Stanley Cup.

The 2006-07 Anaheim Ducks started 12-0-4 and finished as champions. The 1984-85 Edmonton Oilers started 12-0-3 and finished as champions. The 1943-44 Montreal Canadiens started 11-0-3 and finished as champions.

‘‘Interesting stat,’’ Hawks coach Joel Quenneville said.

The Hawks are 12-0-3, the second-best season-opening point streak in NHL history. A victory or overtime/shootout loss Tuesday against the Vancouver Canucks at the United Center would match the all-time mark. They could break it Friday against the Sharks.

January 21 – Luongo Update

Despite months of rumors, the season opened with Roberto Luongo still in Vancouver, albeit with his status changed from franchise goalie to Cory Schneider’s backup. Not a good look, and not one likely to remain long, given his $5.33 million cap hit. The most logical landing spots for Bobby Lu are Toronto or Florida (where he formerly wore his Apollo 13-sized pads). One source claims Brian Burke, recently pushed aside as Leafs GM, worked out a deal for Luongo with Canucks GM Mike Gillis over the summer, one that would have delivered the goalie to Toronto when the lockout ended. Ex-Canucks exec Dave Nonis, now the Leafs GM, made the deal in 2006 that brought Luongo to Vancouver and also signed him to his monster contract. Toronto remains the front-runner for Luongo, but that could change rapidly, if a club with shaky goaltending (Chicago?) stumbles out of the gate.

Roberto Luongo conducting himself with absolute class as his departure nears

When Roberto Luongo leaves the Canucks, he will depart as the city’s greatest-ever goaltender.

When he is traded, he will leave with a gold medal, two shutouts in the Stanley Cup final, and a resume which says “Hart Trophy finalist.”

He will leave with at least 13 more wins and 13 more shutouts than Kirk McLean — and that’s in 130 fewer Canucks games.
