Hockey is the game canadians can't seem to get enough of. It's like an addiction similar to playing the spin palace casino games. But most importantly it is down to the loyalty as a fellow canadian to follow the country's number 1 sport!
HTR Feature Article: BURKE: MARKET PICKING UP STEAM, LEAFS OPEN FOR BUSINESS
Toronto Maple Leafs general manager Brian Burke says he has received what he calls two "solid" trade offers since the weekend. Speaking on Toronto's AM 640 radio on Monday, Burke did not elaborate on the particulars of the deals. He did indicate that a move may not be imminent, and explained that the trade market is picking up some steam.

leafy writes "Okay, here's the deal. Now that the Ilya Kovalchuk contract situation with New Jersey has been resolved, the Devils need to shed around $3.5 to 4 million off their total payroll.

Quick Leafs rumor from the Toronto Star
The Leafs, though, will pull every lever to correct their inadvertent largesse, sprinkle some water over their draft-less desert. While Burke won’t confirm it, Toronto aims to parlay Tomas Kaberle into a first-round pick and top-six forward. As if. But that will be the price tag for the veteran defenceman, otherwise Kaberle goes nowhere.

Whats Next in Leafland
Peca4PM writes "Burkie has yet again managed to bring i a high level player and took nobody in the organization under the age of 25 and no draft picks to do it.
I find that and the fact the Dion is 24 and Aullie will also be an NHL d man is only 20, make the trade very positive for the leafs moving forward. The fact is on a team with legitimate offensive players, Stajan Hagman and White will produce like the third line centre, second line winger and 4-6 D man that they are. Somebody HAD to score some goals for the leafs, and so the guys getting PP minutes and getting first line and top pairing ice time were the guys to do it. I am not saying these players cannot be useful parts of a winning team, but their stats are greatly inflated playing on such a poor offensive team. "

Prospective Leafs Trade - What do you think???
GoLeafsGo12 writes "There has been much discussion this season about the requirement of the Blackhawks to clear cap space for the 2010 season, but we all know that Stan Bowman is reluctant to make a blockbuster trade now to reduce cap space IF it is going to reduce his teams chances of playoff success NOW.
With that being said, I think that I have a potential trade that works for both Chicago and the Leafs... "

Peter Mueller to Leafs?
glotz_99 writes "The Phoenix Coyotes remain on the lookout for a veteran defenseman, but the blueline isn't the only area the club is concerned about. Coyotes GM Don Maloney has been searching for a new rearguard for several weeks. With more than $27 million in available cap space, the Coyotes have more than enough room to add players, but their confusing ownership situation may prevent them from making key acquisitions. Up front, Maloney wouldn't mind adding another top-six goal-scorer and it has been widely reported that young center Peter Mueller could be made available.

Maple Leafs interested in Nathan Horton
glotz_99 writes "thefourthperiod.com is reporting:
The Toronto Maple Leafs appear to be combing through the NHL for a trade partner or two, as GM Brian Burke looks for ways to bolster his roster. It's been widely reported that the Leafs would like to move forward Jason Blake and goalie Vesa Toskala at some point this season, while various rumors have also linked Alexei Ponikarovsky and Jeff Finger to the trade block. Burke is believed to be looking for a gritty top-six forward to play alongside Phil Kessel and according to one published report, the Leafs are interested in Florida Panthers forward Nathan Horton. "

Maple Leafs need to make deal with Oilers for top pick in 2012 NHL entry draft We cannot say this for sure, but ever since Edmonton Oilers general manager Steve Tambellini said that the No. 1 pick he received in Tuesday’s draft lottery could be available for trade, you have to believe that the first call he received was from Maple Leafs general manager Brian Burke … or KHL president Alexander Medvedev. The KHL could use Nail Yakupov — considered the top prospect — and they might get him if the NHL fails to negotiate a new collective bargaining agreement with the players before the start of next season. But the Leafs, who have the fifth-overall selection, truly need this No. 1 pick. Not so much because it will help the team, but because it will help erase the bad feeling in everyone’s mouth after a lousy second half to the season. Job security casualty of Leafs train wreck About all that’s certain regarding the Maple Leafs’ roster is that we know it will be different in September when training camp starts. No teams, whether they’ve won the Stanley Cup or crashed and burned and missed the playoffs, stay the same one season to the next. “You know changes will be made, regardless of what happened,” Leafs forward Matthew Lombardi said. “It’s always tough at the end of the year, saying goodbye to guys. But most hockey guys, everyone gets along pretty well and everyone can adapt. I have got to know that over the last couple of years.” Peddie's cheapness caused some of Burke's mess You can trace the origins of the sad demise of the Maple Leafs back to a single decision that then-CEO Richard Peddie made on Aug. 23, 2003. A decision that, more than anything else, has been responsible for the lack of playoff games in Toronto since the season lost to lockout. A decision that cost Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment Ltd., the company Peddie is so often credited with building, somewhere between $60- and $100-million in lost playoff revenue alone. Rink Wrap: Burke needs to land a big one The honeymoon is over for Maple Leafs president and GM Brian Burke. While his decision to fire Ron Wilson as coach and replace him with Randy Carlyle was viewed as a good move in NHL circles, the most important summer of Burke’s career at the helm of the Leafs certainly lies ahead. | |
