Hockey is the game canadians can't seem to get enough of. It's like an addiction similar to playing the spin palace casino games. But most importantly it is down to the loyalty as a fellow canadian to follow the country's number 1 sport!

State of the Market - from tsn.ca
TSN Hockey Insiders Darren Dreger and Pierre LeBrun discussed the Flyers' need for a defenceman and Ryan Suter's market status last night on Insider Trading.
LeBrun says that with Carolina inking Tim Gleason to an extension the Flyers now have to regroup in their defensive search. He says that Montreal's Hal Gill could be an option with his experience, shot-blocking and penalty-killing ability. He says that Dallas defenceman Nicklas Grossman and Toronto's Luke Schenn could also be targets.
Dreger says that many teams around the league believe the Predators All-Star defenceman to be in play leading up to the deadline. He also discusses what the potential asking price would be for Suter, saying the Predators would want a four-piece-deep package in return.

Trade Rumors: Trade talk heating up
LEBRUN: I feel for Ducks GM Bob Murray. Where was this level of play two months ago when the season was still salvageable? I just can’t see the Ducks bridging that gap. All this run is doing is ruining Anaheim’s draft pick for June. Unless Anaheim somehow gets back into the race, the Ducks will be sellers come the trade deadline. One name to keep an eye on is veteran blueliner Lubomir Visnovsky.

Trade Rumors: Brenden Morrow Rumors from the Edmonton Journal
*Why should anybody be surprised that Dallas Stars captain Brenden Morrow might be on the market? There are lots of miles on that chassis from all the punishment he’s taken and dished out, and he just turned 33. He’s still an effective player, but this is the classic case of the Stars checking the level of teams’ interest before Morrow hits the free-agent marketplace on July 1, 2013.

Trade Rumors: Monday Rumors from Bruce Garrioch
OFF THE GLASS Should the Canadiens go shopping at the deadline — and they haven’t decided whether they’re a buyer or seller — then GM Pierre Gauthier is going to be looking for a big centre. The issue: There aren’t many on the market. There was talk of the Habs having interest in Buffalo’s Derek Roy, but at 5-foot-8 and 190 pounds, he’s not an answer to the problems ... Since it looks like Nashville Ds Ryan Suter and Shea Weber aren’t going to be moved at the deadline, the Flyers are going to have to turn their attention elsewhere to get a replacement for the injured Chris Pronger. GM Paul Holmgren will certainly take any one of the three Carolina D-men being shopped: Tim Gleason, Bryan Allen or Jaroslav Spacek.

Trade Rumors: Trade Rumblings: Ruutu, Carter on move?
OTTAWA -- From conversations I’ve had with teams over the weekend, there’s a chance the trade season will get going for real after the All-Star break.
One name that could move as early as this week is Tuomo Ruutu, the Carolina Hurricanes forward who is slated to become an unrestricted free agent on July 1. The Canes have taken lots of calls on him and may finally be ready to move him.

Trade Rumors: Contenders eye trade targets
National Hockey League general managers use their down time during All-Star break to assess their own teams and check in with their rival team executives. Expect to hear lots of rumors during the next few days as a result. But which players could actually move in a trade? And which players could actually impact the playoff races? Here are some players that fall into that category:

Trade Rumors: Rumors from Bruce Garrioch
All those teams looking for goaltending help might want to give Edmonton GM Steve Tambellini a call. He’s not shopping G Nikolai Khabibulin and his $3.75-million cap hit, but the Oilers are certainly listening to offers on all their players in the midst of another lost season. Bolts GM Steve Yzerman has to start thinking about next season and Khabibulin did win a Cup in Tampa in 2004. Many believe Burke should go after a goalie because as time ticks away on the season, the Leafs don’t have a true No. 1 ... Vancouver GM Mike Gillis, a longtime reader of this space, has been working the phones. Some of his counterparts say Gillis wants to add grit after the Bruins ran roughshod over the Canucks in the Cup final last season. Don’t be surprised if he acquires Anaheim RW George Parros. By the way, don’t expect to see Vancouver G Cory Schneider dealt. One team on the asking price for Schneider: “Stupid high.” ... The Penguins have more than a passing interest in Tampa’s Dominic Moore. They aren’t the only team, either.

Trade Rumors: Trade deadline chatter starting to heat up
Maple Leafs general manager Brian Burke expects the Feb. 27 trade deadline to seem like a busy holiday, and he plans to have his shopping done early.
“Whatever moves we intend to make will be in advance of the deadline because I’ve never liked the price tag at the deadline,” Burke said.
Last year, the deadline was Feb. 28, but some players began moving as early as Feb. 9. Joffrey Lupul, Francois Beauchemin, Mike Fisher and Kris Versteeg changed teams early and the Boston Bruins picked up defenceman Tomas Kaberle 10 days before the deadline.

Trade Rumors: With demand peaking, which forwards are available?
Other teams confirmed to be looking for a top-six forward include Chicago, Toronto, Minnesota, Los Angeles, Detroit, the New York Rangers and, as Poile said, Nashville. San Jose could be in the mix for either a top-six forward or a checking-line forward. Boston and Vancouver are looking for a depth forward. So, easier said than done when so many clubs are looking for similar assets.

Trade Rumors: Are the Leafs after Malone?
So Brian Burke may have to set his sights a little lower looking six weeks ahead to the Feb. 27 trade deadline after making big deals to acquire Phil Kessel, Dion Phaneuf and Joffrey Lupul the last three seasons.
Not just a little lower. Also at a financial cost that may be less appealing.
Which brings us once more to Tampa Bay Lightning left winger Ryan Malone, once one of the more highly regarded power forwards in the game, now less of a force for the Bolts, who sit at the bottom of the Eastern Conference standings right now.

Trade Rumors: Is an Oilers-Blackhawks deal in the offing?
What are the chances the Edmonton Oilers could trade Sam Gagner and Nikolai Khabibulin to the Chicago Blackhawks because they need a second-line centre and a goalie? Maybe we could get Mark McNeill and Brandan Saad or Kyle Beach for second-line help.

The Ducks have put up the For Sale sign.
And you can bet Maple Leafs GM Brian Burke will be sniffing around, trying to buy some prime real estate ... maybe C Ryan Getzlaf or W Bobby Ryan. Burke and the Ducks’ GM Bob Murray are old trading partners. And Burke will be hoping that continues before next month’s trade deadline. Murray sent a wakeup call last week and indicated everybody is available except for W Teemu Selanne and C Saku Koivu.

Leafs trade rumour of the day features Ryan Getzlaf When Ducks GM Bob Murray announced a month ago that everyone on his team, excluding veterans Saku Koivu and Teemu Selanne, could be traded, it opened the floodgates for rumours involving his team’s Big Three: forwards Ryan Getzlaf, Bobby Ryan and Corey Perry. It also lit a blazing fire a under the Ducks, who have recorded a 9-1-1 mark since the comments were made. With his club now 10 points out of a playoff spot, Murray may yet change his mind but speculation remains that the Ducks will be sellers as the NHL trade deadline nears. Leafs stalked by trade rumours In one corner of the Maple Leafs dressing room on Monday afternoon, Mikhail Grabovski was addressing trade rumours. In another corner, Clarke MacArthur had just stopped doing the same. Nearly a month has to pass before the NHL's trade deadline comes on Feb. 27, but with the all-star break finished, speculation will start to thicken in earnest. Mikhail Grabovski brushes aside trade speculation That is a lot of time, and there are a lot of seats in the dressing room. On Monday, as the team returned from the all-star break, the hottest seat belonged to Mikhail Grabovski, the centre who is set to become an unrestricted free agent this summer. “You know, I think it’s more about you guys — not me,” he said of speculation he might become a bargaining chip in the trade market. “I think more about hockey than about my future. I know if I play well, I can stay with the same team.” | |
