Post-game review: Toronto vs. Ottawa – Game 1

Overall, this was one hell of a game, and I was extremely pleased with the effort the Toronto Maple Leafs put in tonight, both offensively and defensively. The Leafs first line of Antropov, Sundin, and Blake showed chemistry, while the Stajan, Steen, Ponikarovski line also showed some spark.

Heatley Re-signs with the Sens

According to sportsnet.ca, Heatley has signed a 6 year 45 million dollar deal with the senators.  This equates to 7.5 million dollars per year.  Murray was pushing 7, Heatley was wanting 8, they compromised right down the middle.  I just hope the money doesn’t go to his head and turns into a lazy A$$ like many others do when they hit the big bucks.

The Pittsburgh Penguins announced today that they have reduced their roster to 22 players for the start of the NHL season, with a bit of a shake-up on what was originally expected.

Who Will Senators Get As Their Top Six Forward?

I know that this subject has dryed up and preaseason is over and the season is almost apon us and Bryan Murray said during the preaseason that he is looking for a top six forward and I wonder who he is going to trade for and when he get that top six forward I think it will be in December or at the February trade deadline.

Bryan Berard in Limbo

According to Newsday.com Bryan Berard is presently in limbo with the New York Islanders. It is reported that the Islanders presently are at their 23 man roster so in order for them to fit Berard into their system they would have to make another move.

Flyers Clear Cap For Forsberg?

The Philly papers report that the Flyers have waived Gauthier and Rathje to clear cap space to sign afforable enforcers like Dowd and Boulerice.

This would likely leave the Flyers 3.5 mill under the cap and the Inquirer suggests that is to make room for Forsberg. Homgren and Forsberg played golf this summer and Foppa has kept his residence in Philly while he recovers from even more surgery.

Canucks Claim Weaver

The Vancouver Canucks Claimed Mike Weaver off waivers from the L.A. Kings. Weaver was good for 9 points last season in 38 games with the kings. It is likely this move was made due to the canucks injured players on the backend Edler and Salo

Rumors rise about Zherdev once again

With the start of another season rumors are once again on the rise about a potential trade involving the Blue Jackets Zherdev. Zherdev is a highly skilled youngster who has turned heads with his play and turned people off with contract disputes and inconsistent play.

Sale in Nashville to fall through once again

Reports on tsn.ca are speculating that the sale to a local group in Nashville is about to fall apart. Of interest is that the local group was going to keep the team in Nashville and that they were looking for tax breaks to do so.

Mark Bell: Expected to be Reinstated

According to TSN and their sources; which are usually 100% reliable; Off-season acquisition Mark Bell will be reinstated sometime today; meaning that his 15-game suspension will begin counting.

This would mean that Bell is eligible to return on Nov. 6 against Ottawa.
