Edmonton Journal

With the Regina Pats out of the running to make the Western Hockey League playoffs, Edmonton Oilers prospect Jordan Eberle is available to join the team.

But he’ll most likely head to the Springfield Falcons, the Oilers’ American Hockey League affiliate, which is what he did last season when he had nine points in nine AHL games.

… But he’s also willing to leave, that’s not too confusing

In a perfect world, Tomas Kaberle would want to remain a Maple Leaf for life.

And yes, he admits he was “happy to hear” general manager Brian Burke state Wednesday that the team was open to discussing a contract extension for the veteran defenceman.

NHL Trade deadline winners

With another NHL trade deadline in the rearview mirror, it’s time to take a look at the five teams that did the best to improve themselves for the stretch drive.

A total of 30 trades went down on Wednesday, but few of them involved big-ticket items.

Remember 2007?

The day of the NHL trade deadline when the Edmonton Oilers dealt Ryan Smyth and proceeded to go on the worst slide in team history, losing 18 of their last 20 games. Remember how they were so decimated by injuries on the blue-line, they had to call up a junior player on emergency relief just to fill out the lineup?

Trade Deadline: Leafs Edition

It’s deadline day and the Toronto Maple Leafs are definitely sellers the question remaining is what can Brian Burke receive for his wares?

I HAVE INSIDE INFO. AND NOW THE ISLANDERS MAY BE ABLE TO GET OUT OF THE RICK DIPIETRO CONTRACT!

Rick Dipietro was on the right path during his rehabilitation for his sore knee. He had been doing well and all signs pointed to a comeback. BUT during his rehab Dipietro became careless.

As of Tuesday morning, it appears as if Nashville general manager David Poile hasn’t been impressed enough to move defenseman Dan Hamhuis to the Flyers or anyone else.

The Toronto Maple Leafs have a deal in place to trade forward Alexei Ponikarovsky to the Pittsburgh Penguins for defenceman Martin Skoula and prospect Luca Caputi.

The deal will become final after a trade call with the NHL.

No word on Whitney

The biggest piece at the NHL trade deadline is at a standstill.

While Carolina Hurricanes GM Jim Rutherford wants to move Ray Whitney before the 3 p.m. tomorrow, the club is in a holding pattern.
