NHL Playoffs Refereeing
Refereeing in every sport has always been criticized and probably always will be, but it is particularly the case in the NHL. Hockey is one of the toughest sports to referee but many things lead me to believe that the NHL referees can be good, they just don’t want to be or someone isn’t letting them be good.

The St. Louis Blues won’t re-sign Paul Kariya, who’s an unrestricted free agent after making $6 million this year.
Panthers could trade Tomas Vokoun and go with a younger player or two.
The Panthers are in a pretty good position when it comes to having quality goaltenders in its organization.
Whether its All-Star Tomas Vokoun and backup in the NHL, or minor-leaguers Tyler Plante and Alexander Salak with the AHL Americans, general manager Randy Sexton knows his team is deep in net.
'Marc Savard Rule' Ignored as Tyler Myers Elbows Johnny Boychuk
It’s funny how quickly the NHL forgets its rulebook and continuously changes it on the fly.
This past Monday, NHL head disciplinarian Colin Campbell warned the 16 NHL general managers whose teams are in the playoffs that harsh punishment would come down on any pregame shenanigans during warmups. The warning said that should an incident take place, the offending team could lose a roster spot on the night the incident takes place, meaning the disciplined team would be forced to play the game with 17 skaters and two goalies. Campbell also said that goalie interference would not be tolerated.
Wings on the block?
As they made their way to summer vacations, both Jarome Iginla (Calgary) and Martin St. Louis (Tampa) made it clear they would be open to being traded. Iginla, an icon in southern Alberta, made it equally clear that he is not looking to be dealt, that he wants to stay, but only if that’s what Flames management wants, too.
'It was the wrong call': Canucks lose to Kings in overtime on power-pl
The Vancouver Canucks couldn’t beat the trend — or the Los Angeles Kings — and are heading to Hollywood tied 1-1 in their opening-round Stanley Cup playoff series.
All seven series that have reached the two-game pole are even at 1-1. Every team that won its opener lost the next time out, and the Canucks were no exception Saturday night.
Outlook into the Leafs Offseason
Maple Leafs President and General Manager Brian Burke has made it no secret that his number one intention this offseason is to improve the team’s top six forward group. Outside of Phil Kessel and , the Leafs lack proven offensive players which are crucial to the team’s playoff hopes next season. After orchestrating the major trades on January 31st, Burke has shored up the team’s blue line and goaltending for the time being.

Sparse crop of free-agent forwards could spur teams to go trade route
If a team is looking for offensive help this summer, it might have better luck finding it through a trade than through free agency. Many teams are looking to shed payroll, and that’s why there likely will be several trades at the NHL draft in June.
But another reason is there doesn’t seem to be a deep pool of desirable unrestricted free agent forwards.
