Will the Hawks target Versteeg?
As for staying alive in the playoffs, I still think they need a little more depth at forward. If they can somehow land a top-six forward, preferably a left wing (I might be alone on this, but I think Kris Versteeg is a really intriguing option who can fit right in), that would allow Andrew Shaw to move back to his more traditional role on the third or fourth line.

If Lightning try to deal Stamkos, which teams are likely suitors?
if the Lightning did indeed consider trading Stamkos — rather than lose him as a free agent this summer and get nothing in return — what might Yzerman want? A right-handed defenseman? NHL players? Prospects? Draft picks?
Shero owes it to Devils to add, not subtract
No doubt Shero would like to acquire a younger top six forward who fits his long-term vision. (Something like the 2015 draft day trade for Kyle Palmieri – a 24-year-old right wing for two draft picks.) That would be the case, however, even if the Devils were 20 points out of a playoff spot.
Will Eberle end up with the Islanders?
"Tavares is an exceptional thinker, and he needs someone who thinks the game the same. Eberle has that ability." Button on trade rumour.

Will the Jackets go into tank mode?
Ultimately, you want to have the best chance at winning the lottery — and getting Matthews, who is most often compared with Jonathan Toews and Anze Kopitar, and never to Gilbert “I’ve got my Sidney Crosby” Brule.
If you are the Jackets, what you want to do is lose, artfully and otherwise. You want to dump veterans at the trade deadline, bring up a bunch of Lake Erie Monsters and see what the kids can do. You want to make February, March and April into three more Octobers.
Alas, the penchant of these Jackets is to catch fire around Groundhog Day, and, well, we’ve all seen that movie, many times, and we’ve yet to see the end of it.
Could the Senators look to move Cowen?
The Senators will clear $4.4 million in salary, according to www.generalfanager.com, by saying goodbye to longtime employees Chris Phillips and Chris Neil. But the small-market Senators would still prefer to have more breathing room to re-up Hoffman, who has a team-high 22 goals. Jared Cowen has one year remaining at a hefty salary of $4.5 million.
Will the Flyers by sellers at the deadline?
Based on the first 47 games, odds are that Hextall will be a seller at the Feb. 29 trade deadline.
Then again, they are only five points out of a playoff spot, so if they stay in the race, Hextall may try to upgrade the offense by adding a winger (Kyle Okposo? Andrew Ladd?) for the stretch run – or see if he can pry 20-year-old Jonathan Drouin from Tampa Bay.
If Hextall decides to be a seller, defensemen Mark Streit and Nick Schultz are among the players who could help a contender, and winger Matt Read might be attractive in the right fit.
Veteran defensemen usually cost a premium to playoff teams. Remember, Hextall last year got Chicago to deal two second-round draft picks for 39-year-old Kimmo Timonen, who had been sidelined all season by blood clots.
