Burrows sees roster reality
Burrows turns 35 next month and has a year left on his contract at a healthy $4.5 million US. That’s a lot of cap space for a depth player and one who’s no longer on the power play, is still on the penalty kill and is being a good mentor to a growing core of young players.
His contract wasn’t movable at the trade deadline and it wouldn’t be surprising if the Canucks made an offseason move with Burrows. A buyout is a possibility. He knows that, but it hasn’t stopped him from playing hard — instead of sulking — even though the club has to make future roster room for Brendan Gaunce and possibly Alex Grenier, to say nothing of what the Canucks might do in free agency.
